As a Veteran, my favorite aspect is the diversity of the employees at UCSD. I'm exposed to different people, all types, different backgrounds, different socio-economic circumstances, coming together for a common purpose. There is no question that my eight years in the Marine Corps were life-shaping, not just career-shaping. I learned the importance of discipline, initiative, and creativity within a framework of discipline and order. I'm able to apply these principles within my role.

In the military, I learned mental toughness, self-discipline, and the skills to work together with people from different backgrounds. UC San Diego Health is well known in the community for our high standard of excellence and I wanted to be an active member of a great organization.

The leadership skills and the clinical training I obtained during my time in the service has been a definite contributing factor to my success. I chose to work at UCSD because of its reputation.
