DESCRIPTION
The Veteran's Benefits Coordinator Assistant works under the direction of the Veteran's Benefits Coordinators to provide student specific information in a timely manner about enrollment, grades, and other pertinent student record information. Specifically, the Veteran's Benefits Coordinator Assistant provides information and enforcement of institutional, state, and federal policies, procedures and regulations related to educational benefits available to Veteran student populations.
The Veteran's Benefits Coordinator Assistant is an intermediate professional familiar with student record based concepts who knows how to apply professional Registrar student service based concepts to student record functions. The incumbent receives work direction from more experienced Veteran's Benefits Coordinators regarding more complex programs.
- Occasional overtime and weekends may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Working knowledge of policies, regulations, and practices with student records services. Experience in an academic service unit of a comparably educational setting, involving the activities of veterans benefits and enrollment services.
Working knowledge of University policies, processes, and procedures and of Federal and California laws pertaining to the privacy rights of students and access to student information.
Ability to apply working knowledge of policies to individual situations in a diverse learning community.
Problem identification and critical thinking skills.
Organizational skills and ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
Written and verbal communication skills. Active listening skills. Customer service orientation. Interpersonal skills.
Working knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and productivity software. Knowledge of Access, Excel, SQL-DSE, ISIS (preferred), Word, Outlook, Internet Explorer, and other various software applications.
Experience using complex databases. Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and control of the situation while making precise decisions under intense pressure.
Ability to work with people from diverse cultures. Utilizes excellent constituent service skills with all interactions.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with campus departments.
Knowledge of specialized registrar core functions (e.g., degree requirements, special enrollment, veterans' benefits, and residency).
Knowledge of federal veteran’s benefits requirements and related policies and procedures.
Experience in an academic unit involved in the activities related to veterans benefits coordination and enrollment services.
Ability to supervise student staff, including providing objective feedback and effective mentoring.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Job offer is contingent upon a satisfactory clearance based on background check results.
Duties may require direct contact with children (defined as individuals under the age of 18). Completion of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) form is required.
Must be prepared to provide the best customer service and student support experience to all stakeholders.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $58,600 - $100,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $28.07 - $48.28
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
