THIS POSITION IS HYBRID WITH A COMBINATION OF ONSITE AND REMOTE WORK.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Integration Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leveraging their comprehensive understanding of systems and software integration to evaluate, resolve, and implement medium-sized projects or portions of larger projects with moderate scope and complexity. This role will play a crucial part in addressing and resolving a wide range of research processes, system functionalities, implementation issues, and system/software integration challenges, collaborating closely with scientific researchers and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Expertise: Demonstrate competency in selecting appropriate tools, methods, and techniques to achieve meet the technical needs of the center. Possess advanced knowledge of systems integration and deploying moderately complex systems integration solutions, including experience with linux based scientific compute clusters and related tools. The candidate should have advanced skills associated with system integration design, modification, implementation, and deployment in a moderately complex environment.

Project Management: Oversee and execute medium-sized projects or portions of larger projects, ensuring timely and efficient delivery. Develop and implement moderately complex project plans, and create project documentation to support project execution. The candidate should have experience developing and implementing moderately complex project plans.

Problem Resolution: Address and resolve various business processes, system functionalities, implementation issues, and integration challenges. Utilize strong problem-solving skills to work on medium to complex projects, and experience with complex troubleshooting in a multi-platform environment. The candidate should have experience with complex operational workflows and complex troubleshooting in a multi-platform environment.

Collaboration: Work closely with scientific researchers and staff to understand their needs and provide effective solutions. Demonstrate ability to work with research staff at various levels of computing and support their research, particularly in scientific disciplines, with a preference for geosciences. The candidate should have experience supporting scientific research computing with a preference for geosciences.

Presentations: Deliver technical presentations to team members, other technical units, and non-technical audiences, including partner institutions. Excellent communication skills, capable of effectively presenting technical information to diverse audiences. The candidate should have ability to impart knowledge to technical and non-technical audiences and to influence outcomes to meet objectives.

Technology Evaluation: Assess new technologies, conducting moderate to complex cost/benefit analyses to determine their viability and impact. Evaluate new technologies and perform thorough cost/benefit analyses, with experience researching and evaluating new technology and solutions for moderately complex environments. The candidate should have experience researching and evaluating new technology and solutions for moderately complex environments.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced knowledge of systems integration and deploying moderately complex systems integration solutions.

  • Advanced skills associated with system integration design, modification, implementation and deployment in a moderately complex environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop moderately complex conversion and system implementation plans.

  • Ability to understand functional needs of the campus / medical center and how systems can support those needs.

  • Demonstrated ability to create software specifications.

  • Experience with identification and use of code libraries and open-source forums.

  • Experience developing and implementing moderately complex project plans.

  • Experience researching and evaluating new technology and solutions for moderately complex environments.

  • Ability to impart knowledge to technical and non-technical audiences and to influence outcomes to meet objectives.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify software and hardware interdependences in a moderately complex multi-platform environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop solutions for moderately complex business and systems / custom / ad-hoc solutions.

  • Experience with complex troubleshooting in a multi-platform environment.

  • Experience with complex operational workflows

  • Experience with linux based scientific compute clusters and related tools

  • Proven experience as a Deployment Engineer, Release Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or in a similar role.

  • Experience supporting research computing, particularly in scientific disciplines, with a preference for geosciences.

  • Excellent communication skills, capable of effectively presenting technical information to diverse audiences.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes (CW3E) is leading the development and implementation of new research and applications capabilities focused on extreme weather and climate events in the Western US. CW3E is developing and implementing weather and climate observations, numerical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and decision support tools focused on atmospheric, land-surface, and hydrologic conditions related to extreme weather events and their impacts. CW3E is an interface between UCSD departments, other universities, and local, state, and federal agencies in the operation, utilization and expansion of a new state-of-the-art weather observing network recently deployed in California. Efforts undertaken by the Center include scientific research, technology development, numerical and neural network model development and testing, and the development/deployment of smart tools that aid decision makers affected by extreme weather, water, and climate events. A key activity of the Center is the development of methods and systems to aid reservoir operations for flood control, water supply, and sustainable ecosystems. CW3E is a focus of national and international research on atmospheric rivers (ARs).

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $94,400 - $176,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $45.21 - $84.67

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
