This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite on Campus and remote.

DESCRIPTION

The New Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science is dedicated to health and social equity and has over 80 primary salaried faculty, 25 secondary faculty, 200+ personnel, 200 postgraduate students, and 550 undergraduate majors. The School includes activities in the Public Health disciplines of Behavioral Medicine, Biostatistics & Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Global Health, Health Policy, Health Equity, Public Mental Health, and Environmental and Climate Health. The School administers two PhD programs (Public Health and Biostatistics), a Master of Public Health professional degree program, an MS in Biostatistics, the only Health Sciences undergraduate program (BSPH), an MAS in Leadership of Healthcare Organizations run in conjunction with UCSD Extension, and a Preventive Medicine residency program. The School has strong collaborative research programs facilitated by Research Centers of Excellence focused on Wireless and Population Health Systems, Health Promotion and Equity, Women's Health, and Tobacco Control, and has extensive collaborations with the School of Medicine, Skaggs School of Pharmacy, Jacobs School of Engineering, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Moores Cancer Center, the Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute, and with other partners across the UC San Diego campus. Partnerships with the community and health agencies are fundamental to the School. The School houses five recharge cores providing services to UCSD and external customers, and the School’s faculty and academics hold ~$125M total awarded grants and contracts.

Working in close cooperation with the PI, co-investigators, and students, the position will independently perform work relevant to the development of a surveillance strategy that monitors how tobacco retailers’ market and sell tobacco products using internet search engines. Essential job functions include working with PIs to archive websites; developing annotation codebooks; work lead and train coders; processing data per specifications for analysis and storage; recruiting residential households to receive delivers and coordinating with study collect delivers; attending regular study meetings with study staff and investigators and participating in report preparation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Theoretical understanding and practical knowledge of public health, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience with research and project coordination on social and/or behavioral science research studies.

  • Demonstrated experience in research data collection and quality control.

  • Experience with data entry. Knowledge of database, word processing and spreadsheet applications such as Qualtrics, MS Word, Excel, and Google Drive.

  • Experience maintaining files and keeping research records.

  • Excellent written (using correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation), verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse groups, including co-workers, supervisor, investigators, collaborators, and study participants.

  • Demonstrated skill in problem-solving, critical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills and ability to work in a changing, multiple-demand setting. Demonstrated experience and ability to prioritize a large volume of work and meeting deadlines efficiently and accurately.

  • Ability to work effectively as a member of the research team.

  • Thorough knowledge of protocol and goals of studies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of UCSD policies and procedures.

  • Experience with qualitative research.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including some occasional evenings and weekends.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $60,301 - $97,008 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $28.88 - $46.46

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
