ASSIGNMENT DETAILS
TES is hiring a temporary Senior Marine Mechanician
Duration: This role is anticipated to last roughly 5.5 - 6 months.
Compensation and Benefits: $34.53 - $35.25 per hour.. Eligible for Mid-Level Benefits including medical plans, paid holidays, and vacation/sick leave.
Location: Point Loma is the home location and candidates must be willing to go to sea for up to 30 days at a time.
Work schedule: Mondays - Fridays, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
DESCRIPTION
- Under general supervision, incumbent performs highly skilled machinist tasks in support of oceanographic projects.
- Works from blueprints, rough sketches, written or oral instructions to perform senior-level skills as a machinist operating a wide range of machines in the shop, including CNC mills and lathes, ProtoTrak/manual mills and lathes, and other machining equipment.
- The position also involves operating heavy equipment, including lifts and wire rope spooling winches.
- Responsibilities include developing, building, installing, and maintaining mechanical equipment for scientific groups for use aboard ship and in shore laboratories.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Preference of five recent years of experience on both HAAS CNC mills and lathes.
- Preference of five recent years of experience using MasterCam programming software to program HAAS CNC machines.
- While familiarity with the principles and operation of hydraulics is beneficial, we are open to candidates who demonstrate the ability to operate or build mechanical equipment or show a willingness and aptitude to learn these skills.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- U.S. Passport required.
- Must be willing to go to sea for up to 30 days at a time.
- Must have access to reliable transportation and/or a valid driver’s license.
- Available to work overtime as needed, and travel overseas as required.
- Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain NIWC/federal clearance to access the Naval Base Point Loma.
This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $72,099 - $101,017 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $34.53 - $48.38
