Under general supervision of the Installation & Repair Team Supervisor, the Senior Electronics Technician is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the Mitel MX One PBX, Local Area Network, Wide Area Network, Wireless Network and the Fiber Optic Network. The technician will perform daily add, moves, changes and repair for Mitel MD110 digital electronic switching system and switched Ethernet to the desktop while providing quality customer service. Troubleshoot the physical layer of the OSI Model. Ensure communications records are accurately completed and changes are made, as needed. Install and support the expansion of the backbone network utilizing multi-media communications switches and routers. Develop and maintain, using online programs, all network diagrams to include the port assignments in all multi-media access centers, terminal servers, etc. Responsible for installing and maintaining all communications networks. Responsible for renovation project installations to support all networks. Place, splice, test and repair telephone cables. Install all station cable and inside wire to include jacks, straight stations, answering devices and inside plant related equipment in accordance to IEEE and EIA/TIA standards and specifications. Test and repair Radio Frequency (RF) and coaxial cable systems. Plan backboard and service blocks to support line amplifiers, power supplies and associated line and head-end equipment. Install, maintain and trouble shoot the wireless network, wireless access points and supporting hardware. Assist with the installation of a variety of network supported devices. Build out and test fiber optic networks.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of MD110, Mitel MX One PBX or comparable electronic switching system indications and required repair action.

  • Proven skill in installation of telephone and ethernet installations.

  • Provide skill in splicing, testing and placing inside premise wiring.

  • Proven skill in design or telecommunications cable system.

  • Proven skill in analog transmission techniques.

  • Proven skill in inside and outside wiring techniques.

  • Proven skill in telecommunication networking techniques.

  • Proven skill in data communication terminal equipment and operation functions.

  • Knowledge of basic network and cable records development techniques.

  • Ability to function effectively in an environment of changing priorities.

  • Good interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy and flexibility.

  • Knowledge of policies and procedures pertaining to work safety.

  • Knowledge of and experience with test equipment commonly used in the sectionalization of voice and data communications problem resolution.

  • Working knowledge of broadband RF signaling.

  • Proven skills and knowledge in interpretation and units of measurements such as speed of light, metric system, wave length, and various others in relation to fiber.

  • Working knowledge of fiber hot melt termination.

  • Considerable knowledge of, and experience with, unshielded twisted pair cable plant including intra-building cable distribution (wire closets, risers conduit and cable trays). Familiarity with underground wiring plant and facilities. Ability to understand and apply wiring standards and principles to specific in-place installations, and to recommend appropriate action. Ability to use VOM, Transmission Impairment Test Set, twisted pair Time Domain Reflectometer, and other test equipment in testing wiring plant installation performance.

  • Knowledge of industry standard wiring distribution techniques and methods, and experience with wire/network equipment closets.

  • Proven skills and knowledge of principles of fiber including nomenclature, industry standards, methods and sources of information.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team providing network services to end users.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with campus management including high-level technically-oriented professionals on matters where University objectives regarding data, systems terminal equipment and fiber are involved.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license.

  • Employee must be available to work overtime and rotating on-call shifts.

  • Employee must be able to work flexible hours, if workload requires it.

  • May be required to work during adverse weather conditions.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $67,902 - $89,346 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $32.52 - $42.79

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
