DESCRIPTION
Performs semi-skilled tasks independently or as part of a regular maintenance crew. Responsible for the maintenance and repair of buildings and related facilities and equipment using tools of the trade. Tasks include but are not limited to, repairing industrial appliances, disposals, pumps, heating systems, interior/exterior lighting, soldering and pipefitting, furniture and window treatment repair, installation, and replacement, trouble shooting, maintenance, and repair. Responsible for trouble shooting maintenance problems and managing/completing preventative computerized maintenance work orders via MAXIMO and handheld technologies. Provide customer service to all customers through the year. Will be assigned to cover campus buildings and grounds, performing maintenance work. Work may be dispatched by Customer Service Center dispatcher, Central Utilities Plant, and/or maintenance supervisors.
Possible Shifts. Shifts assignments will be determined based on experience and availability.
Mon-Thu 12pm -10:30pm
Tue-Fri 5am -3:30pm
Sun-Thu 2pm - 10:30pm
Tue-Sat 6am - 2:30pm
Mon-Fri 6am - 2:30pm
Must be physically able to perform essential functions of position.
QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of experience in the performance of semi-skilled building maintenance work, or one year as a Building Maintenance Worker; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read technical instruction manuals and drawings.
Ability to express work and equipment in technical terms or terms of the trade.
Experience performing maintenance and repair on natural gas heaters.
Experience maintaining and repairing garbage disposals, ventilation fans, including repair of refrigerator door switches, defrost timers, and freezer fans.
Experience installing, maintaining and repairing interior and exterior lighting systems including transformers and ballast used in fluorescent lighting. Experience repairing free-standing light fixtures.
Experience installing, maintaining and repairing wall switches, electrical breakers, and receptacles.
Experience using electrical multi-meter and amp probe.
Experience using soft soldering equipment (propane/MAPP/acetyle gas hand torch).
Experience sizing pipe, piping materials, types and schedules.
Physical ability to perform indicated tasks.
Proven experience using hand tools and utilizing all equipment common to the building maintenance trades.
Ability to maintain inventory and control stock for assigned areas. Ability to safeguard key, tools and equipment.
Knowledge and ability to work in a safe manner according to local, federal, and state requirements.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to work well in a team or alone.
Ability to effectively interact with diverse groups of people.
Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to frequently changing priorities.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
DOJ/FBI background checks and clearances required.
DMV Clearance required prior to hire.
Ability to work in morgues/gross anatomy/pathological laboratories where human/animal bodies or part thereof may be exposed to view of the worker.
Must possess and maintain valid California Driver license and participate in DMV Pull Program.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $50,383 - $65,166 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $24.13 - $31.21
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
