UC San Diego Housing, Dining and Hospitality provides housing and dining services for approximately 19,000 undergraduate and graduate students and their families in more than 400 buildings, covering nearly 10 million square feet. POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Sales Manager, Hospitality and Conference Services will supervise and have full responsibility for Hospitality and Conference Services Sales Management which includes over 6 Million in annual sales. Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Conference and Meeting Rooms Sales team including visioning, planning, organizing, overseeing the career and student staff, and administration of Conference Services Sales. Within each of these programs the incumbent is responsible for the following:
Supervision and direction of the day-to-day management of Hospitality and Conference Services Sales Management and staff
Development of long and short-range plans that deliver the vision and meet the strategic plan for each assigned area.
Develop and implement an outreach plan to bring new customers to the campus, including the cultivation of new clients and business.
Provide executive meeting services, meeting planning services, and conference groups with quality short-term housing, dining and meeting space, and supplemental services.-Development of an annual budget and annual revenue goals, ensuring that all budgets are met for each assigned area.
Serve as the nexus between the department and internal and external partners to ensure goals are met and exceed customer expectations.
Implement information sharing procedures at all levels of the department and ensure that supporting divisions are involved and informed about the program and their needs.
Continually update the program to remain in alignment with current trends in technology, customer service expectations, and conference industry standards. Pursue new and innovative conference programs that are in alignment with and support the current campus vision of being a student-centered, research-oriented, public University.
Ensure outstanding customer service through the UC San Diego Principles of Community and the Balanced Scorecard concepts for 20,000 plus guests annually.
Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced sales professional to perform the full range of sales activities, including coordinating events and developing and implementing promotional strategies, materials, and products designed to promote awareness within the campus and/or medical center community and to the general public of department and/or campus and/or medical center services, programs, or products. Has a full understanding of industry practices and campus and/or medical center policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues.
QUALIFICATIONS
Three (3+) or more years of demonstrated experience in sales such as conference planning and sales, catering, special events, meeting planning, and marketing.
Experience in event and media activities management.
Proven experience providing leadership and work direction to service staff, including organizing and delegating tasks, training, and monitoring work while maintaining quality control standards and meeting deadlines.
Thorough knowledge of marketing mediums and funding sources.
Experience in proper billing procedures, interpreting financial data, weekly reports, and the General Campus Ledger. Ability to provide soluble recommendations on a variety of sales/conferences, events, and marketing matters.
Skills in implementing and monitoring customer service standards. Ability to work effectively in a customer service environment.
Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor staff. Ability to encourage and model effective work habits and work effectively with diverse groups, either individually or in a team environment.
Thorough knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.
Experience using computer software and hardware such as word processing, e-mail, database, and spreadsheet software. Ability to use Word, Outlook, Excel and numerous financial analyses software.
Thorough knowledge of the campus and / or medical center, including its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives and infrastructure.
Thorough knowledge of the campus and / or medical center's products and services.
Thorough analytical and written communication skills. to effectively interact with team members and clients Skillful in negotiating contracts and agreements to maximize profits. Proficient in creating and delivering persuasive sales presentations.
Strong interpersonal communication and political acumen skills.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $53,600 - $111,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $25.67 - $53.45
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
