DESCRIPTION

This is a Nurse Manager position for JMC 3GH ICU, a 24-bed Medical/Surgical/Oncology ICU at UC San Diego Health's Jacobs Medical Center. The unit cares for Pulmonary Critical Care Patients including COVID and ECMO and many oncology populations (including BMT). The unit also cares for a Surgical Critical Care patient population including seven surgical specialties. The unit occasionally cares pregnant or postpartum critical care patients. This Nurse Manager position would join a collaborative management structure and work alongside a lead manager. This position would have one supervisory direct report (Assistant Nurse Manager) and would be responsible for approximately 60 direct/indirect reports, as well as have unit responsibilities for finance, quality, staff satisfaction, interprofessional relationships, regulatory and safety under the direction of a lead manager. The ideal candidate would have a strong background in Medical and Surgical Critical Care, including oncology populations.

Manages nursing and administrative operations in specific patient care areas. Implements changes to patient workflows and operational processes. Maintains 24 hour line management responsibility for the administration of fiscal, material and human resources. Involved in ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and / or provision of patient care delivery in assigned nursing unit(s) or area(s). Promotes environment for a shared voice in nursing practice and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes. Accountable for the quality, safety, patient experience and cost-effectiveness of patient care. Consults and collaborates with other health care professionals to coordinate the management of patient care. Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students and others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors or Master's Degree in Nursing required.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of California.
  • BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six months of hire date.
  • 7 or more years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years of acute care ICU experience.
  • 6 months or more of supervisory or management experience.
  • Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.
  • Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or relevant area.
  • Certification in relevant area.
  • Surgical, transplant, COVID, and/or oncology ICU experience.
