DESCRIPTION
The Department of Medicine is responsible for fulfilling the teaching, research, and clinical missions of the University of California, San Diego and employs 500+ full-time salaried faculty members and 150+ academic appointees. Staff personnel include 800+ staff in 9 bargaining units, students, and volunteers. There are over 250 clinical faculties practicing at multiple sites and hospitals. Professional fee billings for the department exceed $50 million with collections of over $19 million per year. The total annual budget is approximately $170 million, which includes contract and grant revenues, clinical practice and medical center funds, and other state and private endowment funds.
Under supervision of the Principal Investigator & Division Administration, the incumbent will serve as research project coordinator for ongoing research studies and assist with administrative tasks within the Division. Responsibilities include helping prepare progress reports for the Principal Investigator; preparing presentations for scientific meetings; updating biobibs and CVs; managing Division Chief calendar; scheduling meetings as needed; manage logistics related to travel and reimbursements. Prepare protocols, training manuals, grants, manuscripts, presentations, and reports as needed. Assist Principal Investigators with tracking grant proposals to ensure compliance with UCSD, State, and Federal agency requirements, and human subjects requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in coordination and allocation of resources and day-to-day planning for efficient operation of an enterprise devoted to high-risk populations and interacting with a research environment.
Experience in to planning, organizing, coordinating, and advertising workshops, webinars, and symposiums that discuss the integration, analysis, and sharing of research data.
Proficiency with the operation of a personal computer and software applications, such as MS Word, Endnote, PowerPoint and Excel. Ability to work with and learn new software for data analysis.
Demonstrated skill in accurate record keeping and ability to organize and present data.
Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) needed to interact professionally and effectively in the work environment, as well as effectively and accurately document research procedures. Excellent verbal, written, and clinical skills to prepare and present information.
Enthusiasm for learning and a genuine interest in scientific research and administration. Willingness and ability to learn new skills, research methods, and scientific principles.
Ability to be resourceful and to understand the overall nature of work/responsibilities to establish useful resources and University contacts.
Experience with making determinations on agenda and key attendees for workshops and symposiums based on research-specific areas and analysis of research progress.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in a research setting with undeserved and/or minority populations.
- Experience working with research study protocols; knowledge of Federal, State and University regulations.
- Knowledge of medical and scientific terminology.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $56,564 - $90,995 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $27.09 - $43.58
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
