ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

Temporary Employment Services is hiring one (1) Research Equipment Technician to support research, development, production, and deployment of oceanographic equipment.

Duration: Anticipated duration is 5-6 months.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00A - 3:30P.

Location: 100% on-site in La Jolla.

DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a skilled Research Equipment Technician to assist our technical staff in building, refurbishing, and deploying small and large oceanographic equipment. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the research, development, production, and deployment of oceanographic instrumentation.

The Technician will assist in the design, construction, and refurbishment of oceanographic equipment, including:Small equipment: underwater pressure vessels, floatation devices, and mooring release systemsLarge equipment: surface floatation devices (up to 4m x 4m x 4m, 2000kg) with installed instrumentation, and mooring anchors (up to 1m x 1m x 0.5m, 2500kg)Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Building and refurbishing equipment in our research facilities,
  • Assisting in organizing and cleaning the warehouse,
  • Helping in transporting equipment from one facility to another,
  • Preparing equipment for at-sea trips.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be able to clear DOJ/FBI/DMV background checks and References.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 75lbs
  • Basic knowledge of computers, printers and email communication
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and heavy-duty tools.
  • Basic knowledge of simple hardware components (bolts, screws, washers, nuts, etc)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be comfortable with working on small boats and research vessels.
  • Licensed and Authorized to drive a forklift rated up to 5000lbs.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be authorized to work in the US.

This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $43,389 - $50,738 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $20.78 - $24.30

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
