Under supervision, the incumbent will acquires skills and knowledge of professional concepts in research data analysis within the Department of Psychiatry. Works on small projects or segments of projects with limited scope and complexity.
The main responsibility is performing genetic analyses of complex traits, building computational pipelines to perform genetic analyses and developing tools for cross-species integration. This includes pipelines based on the established computations workflow, using Bash scripting and software such as PLINK, GCTA, LDSC, PRS-CS/PRSice/LDPred, PrediXcan, and network analyses; performing routine quality control for data inputs and analysis outputs, assisting with data organization and backup. Additional responsibility will include developing new pipelines, which require, under supervision, selecting software and testing different computational approaches. The successful applicant will have exceptional written and verbal communication, will carefully document their work and annotate their code. Excellent organization skills are required in order to work as part of a team.
Six (6) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus two (2) years of related experience/training.
Knowledge of bioinformatics software related to genome-wide association and transcriptomic analyses, ability to stay abreast of the recent development in the field.
Knowledge of Linux-based workflow development, including Bash scripting.
Demonstrated experience in handling big data sets. Experience in programming languages, including R and Python.
Academic courses in statistical analysis, computational biology, molecular biology, and genetics.
Working skills in statistical analysis, systems programming, database design and data security measures.
Working skills in analysis and consultation. Ability to perform routine genetic analyses data using statistical analysis.
Excellent communication skills. Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
Proven ability to plan and conduct studies related to genetic studies (e.g., GWAS), quality control, optimize parameters in the bioinformatics computational pipelines.
Extensive experience in developing multistep analysis pipelines/workflows using scripting languages.
Knowledge of Linux, Windows, High Performance Computing, cloud technologies such as Amazon EC2
Experience in using software revision control systems (e.g. GIT).
Working knowledge of genetic-analyses related software such as EasyQC, Plink, LDSC, SAIGE, Cytoscape.
Working knowledge of transcriptomic-related software such as PrediXcan.
Proven ability to carefully document the work and annotate the code.
- Proven ability to work independently, take ownership of work performance, follow through on assignments, and anticipate, identify, and analyze situations and independently seek solutions or recommend course of action as appropriate.
