DESCRIPTION

Incumbent will work under the supervision of Dr. Natasha Martin, an infectious disease economic modeler who develops dynamic transmission models to evaluate the impact and cost-effectiveness of public health interventions. The candidate will build, code, and analyze predictive HCV transmission models using a variety of mathematical modelling techniques. These will be used to assess the impact of HCV elimination strategies in San Diego County. The candidate will generalize country-specific human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) models for cross-country adaptations using data from global systematic review literature.

Works on research data reporting assignments that are of moderate diversity in scope. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

MINMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two (2) or more years of relevant experience. Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

  • Working skills in statistical analysis, systems programming, database design and data security measures. Demonstrated ability to read complex scientific literature, understand appropriate study design, formulate appropriate statistical hypotheses, and propose appropriate statistical methods.

  • Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing. Experience providing written interpretation of statistical methods and results, in a manner suitable for publication. Excellent time management skills.

  • Demonstrated working experience modelling complex dynamical systems in MATLAB or other scientific computing platforms.

  • Theoretical knowledge of dynamic systems theory including nonlinear systems, networked systems, and control theory.

  • Working knowledge of research function.

  • Working skills in analysis and consultation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in mathematics, engineering, epidemiology, or related field is preferred.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

  • Candidate must have experience developing HCV transmission models with topical knowledge of HCV elimination policy and practice.
