Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments within the UCSD School of Medicine with comprehensive clinical programs, extensive basic science and clinical research, and diverse educational opportunities for students, residents and fellows. The internationally renowned faculty play a major role in medical and graduate student training, providing educational and programmatic offerings that span several disciplines, and provide diversity to meet the interests of a broad spectrum of students and scholars. Under supervision, the incumbent will be responsible for conducting data analysis and necessary biological experiments, and must have strong programming experience. The position requires use of algorithms and software (e.g., Python, R, Java, Perl) for processing and analyzing the data. The incumbent needs to regularly document their work, leading to presentations, status reports, and publication(s).
Theoretical knowledge of a life science such as bioengineering or biology.
Knowledge of or experience and ability to code in Perl, Python, and/or R.
Proven knowledge of or experience with gene expression data.
Excellent computer skills and ability to learn new computer programs. Proficient knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook.
Ability to perform statistical analysis for parametric and non-parametric methods.
Strong written and verbal communication skills needed to interact professionally and effectively in the work environment, as well as to effectively document research procedures. Ability to read, comprehend and discuss research materials.
Effective interpersonal skills. Ability to work with a variety of personnel from the laboratory.
Courteous, respectful of co-worker and maintain a safe and collegiate workplace environment.
Knowledge of or experience with basic molecular biology techniques such as PCR and staining.
