DESCRIPTION
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The mission of the The Halicioglu Data Science Institute (HDSI) is to lay the groundwork for the scientific foundations of the emerging discipline of data science, develop new methods and infrastructure, and train students, faculty and industry partners to use data science in ways that will allow them to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems. HDSI has been established as an independent and innovative academic unit that works collaboratively with schools, divisions, departments, centers, students and faculty across multiple disciplines throughout the entire campus.
HDSI has 22.66 Faculty FTE on board, through a headcount of more than 48 faculty with split appointments in multiple departments. This highly talented data-driven ecosystem of thought leaders is only expected to grow in the coming years. HDSI is the administrative home for the undergraduate B.S. major and minor in Data Science, and three new graduate programs; Master of Data Science Online, MS in Data Science and PhD in Data Science. The undergraduate program has 1,000+ students across our major and minor programs. Our newly launched graduate programs are home to 199 MS students, 44 of which belong to our Online Master of Data Science degree, and 40 PhD students.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
This is a professional position at the experienced level of the Research Administrator Series. The incumbent is an experienced professional who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field; independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; possesses broad job knowledge; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions.
The Research Administrator will use their skills as a seasoned, experienced research administrator to independently develop and / or oversee research proposals, awards and / or transactions related to contract and grant management and maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies. They will work on proposals and awards of diverse scope where analysis of data requires thorough understanding of complex regulations, as well as complete and approve transactions for signature by manager or other authorized institutional official. The incumbent will also work on complex proposals and awards that may involve multiple investigators and / or multiple sub awards and guide less experienced staff. Typically, the incumbent will work on complex proposals such as grants / contracts which require task budgets, option years, multiple investigators and multiple sub awards.
Additionally, the incumbent will provide analytical and financial support in proposal processing, contract and grant administration, and budget development, including pre-award proposal initiatives, management of funds post-award, and closeout activities for federal, state, local and private sponsors. Activities associated with forecasting, planning, and managing of research portfolios by performing some or all of the following: coordinating and identifying and developing and/or presenting proposals, contracts and other agreements; reviewing proposals to ensure institutional compliance; negotiating, administering and monitoring contract and grant awards, including compliance with regulations, terms and conditions; financial management and reporting; and sub award/subcontract issuance and administration will be involved.
Post award reporting complexity in a highly complex, fast paced and rapidly expanding academic unit. Responsibilities include reporting to federal and state sponsors, cost-sharing reporting. Incumbent is currently supporting the department's complicated cost sharing process with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration). The incumbent will work primarily with NSF and NIH, but has sponsors such as DARPA.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Knowledge of department administration and skill in analyzing results, identifying issues, and making recommendations to supervisor.
Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
Proficiency working with computer and information management systems.
Experienced with all types of award mechanisms, including grants, contracts, subcontracts, cooperative agreements.
Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports. Proficiency in utilizing Oracle reports, queries, and use pivot tables or similar experience using other financial reporting tools.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Hybrid position with 3 days on-campus and 2 days remote.
Occasional overtime may be required.
Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $69,500 - $123,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $33.29 - $59.15
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
