DESCRIPTION

Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, incumbent will primarily be responsible for administering an educational intervention to persons with dementia and their family caregivers within the Department of Psychiatry. The incumbent will meet with caregivers and their ADRD loved-ones to assist in providing an educational intervention to dyad participants as part of an ongoing study of sleep in this population. The incumbent will also assist in programming sleep watches to be provided to participants in the study, as well as to maintain and import data from the watches for use in statistical analyses by the principal investigator. The incumbent will also be responsible for assisting with other duties including recruitment, screening, and assessment of research participants. The incumbent will assist in identifying potential participants; scheduling and conducting in-home assessments; obtaining informed consent; and serving as a liaison between study and participant physicians. Incumbent will schedule visits as needed, prepare research forms, maintain research charts and study materials, coordinate with laboratories, and order supplies as needed. General duties will also include entering data and assisting in interpreting the data under the supervision of the study investigators. Regularly attend and contribute to research meetings. Assist with other duties will include administrative tasks as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Theoretical knowledge in Psychiatry, psychology or related field.

  • Possession of valid CA driver's license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation to participants' homes for assessments in a timely manner.

  • Ability to master assessment of research participants and to provide psychosocial interventions.

  • Theoretical knowledge of Alzheimer's Disease and gerontology.

  • Knowledge of and ability to explain behavioral sleep theories and therapies.

  • Knowledge of Alzheimer's Disease, caregiver stress, and sleep interventions. Good organizational skills and ability to follow structured psychosocial interventions.

  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) needed to interact professionally and effectively in the work environment, including ability to conduct psychosocial interventions and assessment of research participants.

  • Effective and diplomatic oral and written communication and interpersonal skills and ability to develop collaborations and professional relationships between research staff and community agencies serving older adults.

  • Demonstrated experience with the operation of a personal computer and software applications, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Good organizational skills to file and maintain participant tracking. Ability to organize and maintain assessment materials, both paper and electronic versions. Demonstrated skill in accurate record keeping and ability to organize data.

  • Proven ability to effectively and accurately document research procedures. Proven ability to read, comprehend, and discuss research materials.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain participant confidentiality.

  • Ability to assist with coordinating and implementing recruitment strategies of participants for research study and screen database to evaluate their eligibility for study participation.

  • Experience to administer 5 sessions of sleep education program to dyad participants.

  • Experience to program Actiwatch sleep watches for use by research participants.

  • Ability to evaluate participant risks in conjunction with Principal Investigator.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Must have access to reliable transportation.

  • Must have valid California driver's license or be willing to obtain and acceptable driving record.

  • Must be willing to drive to the patients' home for assessment interviews and to provide the study intervention(s).

  • Must be willing to work flexible schedule, including early morning and evening hours.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $53,766 - $64,143 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $25.75 - $30.72

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
