This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Towne Centre Drive and remote.


As an Principal Full Stack Engineer at the Jacobs Center for Health Innovation, you will spearhead the development of cutting-edge digital front door mobile applications. This role requires an exceptional blend of technical skills, leadership, and a deep understanding of integrating advanced web, cloud, and mobile technologies in a healthcare setting.


  • Lead the end-to-end development of a large-scale, AI-integrated mobile application, using state-of-the-art web technologies such as React Native, Swift, Kotlin, and modern JavaScript frameworks.
  • Architect and implement scalable and secure web services, leveraging cloud computing platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud for high availability and performance.
  • Drive the integration of the mobile app with complex healthcare systems, including clinical, AI cloud, and operational platforms, ensuring seamless data flow and functionality.
  • Architect and lead the development of a robust microservices architecture for the digital front door mobile application, ensuring scalable, maintainable, and efficient service deployment. This includes designing isolated services that communicate through well-defined APIs, enabling rapid feature development, and facilitating continuous integration and deployment processes.
  • Oversee the deployment of these microservices on cloud computing platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, employing containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes for orchestration.
  • Ensure that all microservices adhere to security standards and compliance requirements, particularly those relevant to the healthcare industry, such as HIPAA.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration with existing clinical, AI cloud, and operational systems, optimizing for performance and user experience.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of responsive, user-centered web interfaces, optimizing for mobile devices and cross-platform compatibility.
  • Champion the adoption of best practices in web application development, continuous integration/deployment, and agile methodologies within the team.
  • Provide technical mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence in web application development.
  • Engage with key stakeholders to define project scope, deliverables, and timelines, ensuring alignment with the center's strategic objectives.


  • Eleven (11) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus seven (7) years of related experience/training. Related experience: Health Innovation projects, academic medical centers, full stack mobile architecture, development vendor management etc.

  • Expert knowledge of secure software development.

  • Expert skills associated with software design, development and deployment of diverse and complex software of campus wide / medical center, institution-wide and/or multi- institutional scope.

  • Demonstrated ability to code software of high complexity / derive algorithms on technical platforms.

  • Demonstrated ability to engage in performance / integration testing, business and technical analysis, data analysis and data modeling of high complexity.

  • Expert skills and experience in recommending changes development, maintenance and software standards and processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with executive-level management on a regular basis.

  • Experienced mentor and leader of software development teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs and how systems can support those needs.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans.

  • Expert experience with identification and use of code libraries and open- source forums.

  • Experience with planning for deployment and creation of feedback mechanisms. Demonstrated software repository skills.

  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non- technical personnel at various levels in the organization.

  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated complex problem-solving skills.


  • Extensive experience in full-stack development, with a focus on web and mobile application development in healthcare or similar complex environments.

  • Expertise in front-end technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript) and frameworks/libraries (React, Angular, Vue.js).

  • Profound knowledge of back-end development using Node.js, Python, Java, or similar technologies.

  • Strong experience with cloud-based solutions (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), and understanding of web application security and compliance (HIPAA).

  • Proven track record of leading and delivering large-scale web application projects.


  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $112,100 - $216,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $53.69 - $103.69

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
