DESCRIPTION

The Principal Dietitian Educator serves as an expert level Dietitian for the nutrition department, providing excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, and clinical supervision and support to team dietitians and diet technicians. The Principal Dietitian Educator confers with dietitians, managers, and other treatment team professionals to coordinate medical and nutritional needs and recommend dietary interventions for patients. Principal Dietitian Educator motivates and leads nutrition staff, including dietitians, diet techs, and interns, and mentors others to grow professionally and advance their knowledge and skills. Principal Dietitian Educator demonstrates in-depth knowledge of Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and integrates evidence-based recommendations into practice, while demonstrating professionalism at all times and holds self and team members accountable for standards of practice. The Principal Dietitian Educator leads clinical staff to ensure optimum patient care, efficient operations, quality service, and regulatory compliance. The Principal Dietitian Educator possesses highly advanced clinical knowledge, which is applied systematically and continuously to monitor patient data and improve quality patient outcomes. The Principal Dietitian Educator integrates research-based practices and practice guidelines established by nutrition specialty groups or other health care agencies into educational and professional development activities.

Responsibilities include the assessment and implementation of nutrition strategies and initiatives to ensure evidence-based nutrition practice is promoted and provided across the continuum of care. Strategies and program development may include development and facilitation of in-services, hands-on skill training, and development of annual competency. Provides guidance, education, and training to staff and may be involved in the hiring and recruitment of new employees. Functions with a high degree of autonomy. Maintains professional growth and development through advanced certification(s), professional affiliations, and organizational committees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Licensed Registered Dietitian in the state of California.
  • Five (5) or more years of clinical dietetics experience.
  • Specialty Certification (example: CNSC, CCTD, CDCES).
  • In-depth knowledge associated with providing evaluation, assessment, and nutritional therapy services within specialty area(s).
  • Knowledge and skills to recommend improvements to nutritional services and consult on quality improvement.
  • Excellent skills in working effectively on a team and collaborating with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary care team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree or higher in related area.
  • 10 years of clinical dietetics experience.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
