DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Senior Director of Cardiovascular services, this position supervises a team of 9 Perfusionists responsible for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of cardiopulmonary bypass equipment used to provide extracorporeal support to patients during cardiac and other related surgeries. Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the processes by which to attain them. Responsible for maintenance and quality control of all equipment and supplies. Oversees the evaluation of new equipment and techniques. Oversees compliance for quality improvement protocols to meet health system and accreditation guidelines. Reviews, develops, and updates policies and procedures, and ensures changes are communicated to staff.

Provides professional extracorporeal support to patients. Directs and supervises the maintenance, set up and operation of the heart lung machine and related equipment used in cardiac surgical procedures. Measures various blood and other parameters to identify appropriate mechanical, pharmacological and thermal manipulation to maintain a physiological state. Administers drugs and anesthetic agents through the cardiopulmonary bypass circuit and controls body temperature for myocardial protection. Keeps surgeon and anesthesiologist fully informed about patient's condition at all times. Delivers controlled cardioplegia.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages, trains, and disciplines all perfusion staff.
  • Makes hiring, promotional, and salary decisions, in accordance with university policy.
  • Ensures staff competency to maintain compliance, providing performance appraisals and determining need for disciplinary actions.
  • Responsible for staff schedules, including monthly call calendar, and reviews, approves, and corrects time cards.
  • Participates in the clinical education and proctoring of perfusion students’ clinical rotations. Serves as a resource to nursing, anesthesia and other hospital departments, collaborating to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Performs complex quality assurance testing
  • As a technical leader and information resource, may provide support, troubleshooting, and problem solving at an advanced level, and may produce and deliver user training curricula.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduated from an accredited perfusion school.

  • Five years of providing perfusion services during surgeries requiring cardiopulmonary bypass, including knowledge of procedures, protocols, techniques, equipment, drugs, perfusion supplies and substances, and emergency response methods.

  • Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP).

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous supervisory/lead experience within Perfusion services at a large health system.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $163,800 - $331,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $78.45 - $158.62

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
