DESCRIPTION

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Division of Extended Studies (DES) at UC San Diego is fully self-supporting, operating year-round (12 months of active instruction) with a budget of $56 million annually in primarily fee income. The unit has over 200 career employees, including academic, management, staff, and executive, as wells as represented and non-represented positions. Many casual or contract employees and student workers also serve in the organization. In addition, DES employs more than 1,000 active by-agreement instructors.

UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies offers year-round continuing and professional education to 100,000 enrollments annually, which translates to more than 30,000 students in over 4,400 courses, panels and events delivered in-person, online, and 3D-virtual reality classrooms. Certificate and degree-related programs, community partnerships, public-service lectures, and special events meet rapidly evolving academic, specialist, and personal enrichment needs. POSITION OVERVIEW

Under general supervision, works with subject matter experts, faculty, guests lecturers, and the program manager to coordinate video/audio recording and editing of events, lectures and classroom material; produce segments and programs; operate cameras, microphones, lighting and other production equipment; name, archive, and manage media assets; and, edit programs for multiple digital delivery venues and applications. Work with the program manager to coordinate marketing and promotion of the program through social media and other platforms.

  • This job will be primarily onsite, with options to work hybrid at times. This position is primarily at Extension's campus location (UNEX).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience with audio/video digital content acquisition, compression, and distribution techniques.

  • Knowledge of standard office equipment and basic computer hardware, and proven working knowledge of computer software such as MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, etc. to produce high quality communications such as business memos, tracking spreadsheets, and visually appealing presentations for a diverse range of audiences.

  • Proven experience with the proper set-up, placement, and operation of camera/video recording equipment, microphones, and lighting for classrooms.

  • Demonstrated experience using post-production software including, but not limited to, Adobe Premiere Pro.

  • Experience with social media platforms including, but not limited to, Vimeo, Facebook and Twitter.

  • Commitment to maintaining up-to-date knowledge of higher education content creation, delivery methods, and associated technology.

  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including diplomacy, tact, and flexibility.

  • Thorough knowledge of Internet, including web browsing, searching, and file downloading

  • Experience working in a complex environment with conflicting priorities.

  • Skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities to allow timely completion of tasks.

  • Ability to work independently and to follow through on assignments and tasks with minimal supervision and high energy.

  • Proven ability to work as part of a team.

  • Strong experience providing excellent customer service in an academic setting.

  • Ability to present a positive impression in person, on the telephone and through e-mail.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • A background check is required for this position.

  • Duties may require direct contact with children (defined as individuals under the age of 18); completion of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) form will be required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $44,119 - $76,880 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $21.13 - $36.82

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
