DESCRIPTION

Functions independently under physician supervision. Responsibilities include: taking patient history, diagnostic vision exams, Goldmann visual field exam, Humphrey field exam; Ishihara color vision test; Brightness Acuity Test and Potential Acuity Meter; pachymetry; Schirmer's test, refractions, A-scans, and coordinates the scheduling of CT scans, MRI scans, and EKG.

Act as the clinic lead: trains new technicians on patient care, oversees clinic patient flow, follows/scribes for the physician, oversees technician coverage during the clinic lunch period, and late coverage if the clinic runs late. In addition, will organize and stock each examination room. Other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Certified Paraoptometric Assistant (CPOA) certification at time of hire or commitment to get it within six months of hire date.
  • Experience in a comparable position including knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position including supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of proper sterile and safety procedures in a laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of proper sterile and safety procedures in a laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory equipment.
  • Knowledge of universal precautions; ensure the proper disposal of biohazardous materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform visual acuity, measurement of eye refractive error, color vision, spectacle measurement, near point accommodation and convergence and related tests.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform tonometry and field of vision tests.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and efficiency in positive patient identification when performing laboratory tests and transcribing laboratory results.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform OCT tomography, Slit Lamp photography and angiography.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and accurately, both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to speak effectively with both MDs and patients.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ophthalmic experience highly desired, but can train the right person.
  • Familiarity with Ophthalmic medical terminology and charting also highly desired.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Ability to work variable shifts, variable work locations, holidays, weekends, and overtime when required

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $64,999 - $80,868 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $31.13 - $38.73

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
