DESCRIPTION

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide care for patients with Advanced Endoscopy, general Gastroenterology (GI), and/or IBD related conditions. Provides comprehensive history and physical exams, orders and reviews diagnostic tests, formulates plans of care, works with the Advanced Endoscopy, General Gastroenterology, and IBD teams along with other providers, and triages telephone calls, electronic messages (e.g. Epic MyChart) and outpatient physician referrals. The nurse is expected to practice consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance.

Gastroenterology is looking for two Advanced Practice Providers to join their team. Based on the experience and interest of the selected candidates, the APP will be assigned to General GI, Advanced GI, or IBD.

Depending on experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the NPI or NPII level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program, or expected to graduate by August 2022.

  • California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification required prior to start date. Must have active California NP license to start credentialing process.

  • National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area required prior to start date.

  • Current BART certification, or BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Recent relevant clinical experience required. GI, IBD, and outpatient experience highly preferred. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years gained through school or work experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Gastroenterology.

  • Proficiency in documentation of patient conditions and outcomes.

  • Proven knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams and procedures, e.g. laboratory blood tests, x-rays, EKG's, biopsies and GI endoscopies.

  • Knowledge of clinical laboratory values and skill in identifying deviations.

  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of PCIS/Epic for retrieval of patient data (computer skills required; PCIS/Epic preferred).

  • Proven experience providing patient education and counseling and developing and implementing long and short range treatment plans.

  • Knowledge of study formats, with ability to edit charts and resolve inconsistencies.

  • Skill in patient interviewing, obtaining a concise medical history and acquiring pertinent data.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge in GI-Motility disease.
  • Knowledge of the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and drug study requirements.
  • Experience working in a clinical research environment. Ability to identify potential clinical trials patients.
  • Experience in research techniques, such as following a protocol, and in collecting all data precisely.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment.
  • Current University of California NPIII employees may be hired at the NPIII level pending review and approval by Health Human Resources and the UCSD Advanced Practice Council.
