DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Chief of Cardiology, responsible for the provision of patient care in the Cardiac Cath Lab and the Cardiology/ Interventional cardiac outpatient clinic. Provides advanced clinical and procedural assistance, support in treating and managing outpatients as part of the multidisciplinary cardiac team. Evaluates patients and performs history and physical, patient preparation for procedures and subsequent management. Solves complex clinical problems and communicates directly with the attending physician. Consultant and liaison for patient and families.
Assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. Under general supervision, incumbents perform operational level duties as described in the Series Concept. The major emphasis at this level is ongoing direct patient care delivery. Assignments at this level primarily encompass management of patients who present chronic and/or episodic health problems. Assignments at this level may include responsibility for occasional community teaching programs participation in program planning and development of patient education information. Job standards are to be performed at the PRACTITIONER level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.
California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification.
National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area.
BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get ART within 6 months of hire date.
Minimum two (2) years of full-time experience as a licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP).
Demonstrated experience diagnosing and treating cardiology patients.
Knowledge of pathology of Cardiac patient population and expected outcomes.
Demonstrated understanding of normal and abnormal laboratory values, diagnostic tests, electrocardio tracings and radiologic studies; and identification of deviations.
Demonstrated experience taking detailed medical history, performing physical examinations, and interpreting findings.
Demonstrated experience working independently as a Nurse Practitioner and exercising independent clinical judgment with demonstrated experience formulating and modifying specialized cardiac treatment plans.
Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with attending physicians and patient's primary medical team.
Ability to maintain detailed medical information in an organized and easily retrievable manner.
Critical thinking skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of adult and adolescent learning theory.
Demonstrated experience developing and organizing training for patients and staff.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior hospitalist or inpatient medicine experience.
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to understand the medical as well as the psychosocial needs of a complex medical inpatient population.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Must be willing to work flexible, variable hours with the ability to change schedule on short notice, based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years gained through school or work experience.
Current UCSD NPIII employees may be hired at the NPIII level pending review and approval by Health Human Resources and the UCSD Advanced Practice Council.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $167,687 - $234,649 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $80.31 - $112.38
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
