DESCRIPTION

Under faculty and in collaboration with administrative leadership within the Department of OB/GYN and Reproductive Sciences, this position will supervise Nurse Practitioners. In addition to supervisory responsibilities, the position will provide care for OB/GYN patients in collaboration with faculty. The supervising APP will provide patient care in the support of Woman and Infant Services. Provide clinical support in managing outpatient care. Assist with patient evaluations including: history and physical, patient preparation and management. Provide patient education. Function as a liaison with health systems personnel including case management coordinators, financial counselors and social workers. Assist with data collection, input and analysis. Participate in departmental community outreach activities and other duties as assigned.

Supervisory responsibilities include overseeing APPs in daily operations, ensuring adherence to ethics and quality standards in the delivery of patient care by Advanced Practice Providers. Position will collaborate with senior management and faculty on operational and performance issues and the development of new plans and programs to improve and integrate APP functions and systems across specialties, departments and throughout the medical center, including the development and implementation of APP Best Practice Models. The position will ensure appropriate professional development opportunities are developed and implemented. Facilitates items such as onboarding, training and orientation schedules, staff development and performance evaluations, time off requests, clinic schedule optimization, inpatient assignments and coordination of care, productivity, compliance, and other supervisory duties as assigned. Serves as a liaison between NPs and supervising physicians.

Supervises APPs responsible for patient evaluation, testing, diagnosis, plans of care, and treatment within a clinical department or specialty practice area. As a supervisor, receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the processes by which to attain them.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification.

  • CNM license or Women's Health NP Board certification.

  • BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Minimum five (5) years work experience as a licensed NP or CNM in Women's Health. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years gained through school or work experience.

  • Ability to provide obstetric services including prenatal examinations, postpartum, gynecology, and family planning. Demonstrated skill at working in a clinical and research setting. Proven ability to interact with a diverse population. Skilled at working independently and being self-motivated. Skilled at working as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise a team and to manage the complex workflow and competing priorities involved with providing quality care as a nurse practitioner. Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory/leadership experience.

  • Solid knowledge of the clinical and operational issues for nurse practitioners performing advanced-practice nursing within departments and specialty areas, including evaluation, testing, diagnosis, and treatment, as well as patient-care concepts, policies, outcomes measurement, quality standards, ethics issues, quality improvement, and continuing staff education and professional development.

  • Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document staff issues and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters.

  • Proven analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.

  • Effective interpersonal skills for effective collaborations with all levels of clinical staff and management, consultants, researchers, and outside agencies.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with ability to train and mentor subordinates, convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner, and to prepare and present a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals.

  • Knowledge of clinical and administrative software and specialized applications and data management systems used by nurse practitioners in providing advanced-practice nursing care, research, documentation, and employee supervision.

  • Ability perform a comprehensive OB/GYN assessment and general medical examination, identifying medical problems and formulate appropriate plan of action. Must be able to see patients independently.

  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Epic for retrieval of patient data (computer skills required; Epic preferred).

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Will be required to travel and provide care at multiple Women's Health clinical sites as scheduled for the Department.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment.
