Experienced professional who performs the full range of marketing activities, including coordinating events and developing and implementing promotional strategies, materials and products designed to promote awareness for innovation & entrepreneurship (I&E) activities at UC San Diego.
The marketing program includes written, visual, digital and electronic communications. Works with management to develop and execute organizational, marketing and communication branding strategies. Designs and implements information campaigns to a) inform the campus population (including students, faculty and administration) of I&E resources and opportunities; b) tell the UC San Diego I&E story to external communities of interest, including the general public, industry, innovation organizations and government at all levels; and c) support OIC and campus initiatives to raise funding for I&E activities through philanthropic donations, grants and sponsorships. Works with University Communications & Public Affairs (UCPA), Research Affairs, and Development offices, as well as campus I&E units, to identify and develop stories of interest, disseminate information about opportunities and develop campus-wide messaging.
This position might be eligible for a flexible work arrangement, which could include a non-standard schedule, and/or the ability to work off-site.
Thorough knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.
Experience using analytics, earned media and other metrics to demonstrate the effectiveness of social media campaigns, communications plans and websites.
Experience or demonstrated ability to provide marketing support to campus leadership or executives.
Strong interpersonal communication and political acumen skills. Effective analytical and written communication skills.
Ability to comprehend academic research and/or technical industry activities and to write and translate the work in a way that is understandable to the general public.
Strong skills in event and media activities management.
Knowledge and skills to advise and consult with management to ensure delivery of the desired message to the target and / or broad general audiences.
Knowledge and understanding of technical applications to perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications.
Thorough skills in understanding and effectively utilizing all news / media mediums including broadcast news, the internet, social media and other emerging technologies.
Thorough technical skills in computer applications for web production, image handling, publishing and design, illustration, presentation preparation, animation, web interaction, and / or other state-of-the-art web communication capabilities. Experience with and ability to use and learn software including Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Cision, Adobe Creative Suite, SharePoint, WebEx,, etc.
Demonstrated ability to multi-task and complete projects quickly in a fast-paced environment.
