This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Towne Centre Drive and remote.
UC San Diego Health is seeking a Manager of Cloud Operations will have responsibility for managing and overseeing all cloud infrastructure operations and UC San Diego Health System and Health Sciences. They will be responsible for ensuring strong alignment between enterprise cloud assets and our business and technology strategy. The Manager of Cloud Operations position will report to the Director of Enterprise Systems, and will regularly collaborate with other Directors and Managers in Health IS to support organizational objectives.
Manager of Cloud Operations Requirements: The Manager of Cloud Operations will function as the point person for all cloud infrastructure operations and will support the cloud operations team in their day to day responsibilities. The candidate will be responsible for the operational team supporting our Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Azure environments. The scope includes clinical operations, research operations, and engagement with programs supporting the Center for Health Innovation. A successful candidate will have a strong background in developing and maintaining and strong agile development methodology. Demonstrated experiencing in agile (spring planning, managing scrums, managing backlogs, etc.) will be a key component to a successful candidate’s profile. Additional requirements include the development of roadmaps based on maturity assessments and pain points for capabilities around architecture, engineering, integration, and reporting for both our staff and technology solutions; defining roles and responsibilities to establish a sustainable enterprise cloud program, operating models, and business cases with both qualitative and quantitative analysis; collaboration and coordination with stakeholders with Health System Clinical and Financial Operations, Health Sciences Professional Schools and Research, Campus ITS, and Health IS.
Program Management Requirements: The Manager of Cloud Operations will function as the technical and operational program manager responsible for their team’s project plans in conjunction with the operational project managers to ensure accurate, consistent, and timely project and application milestone delivery. Specific duties include but are not limited to developing and maintaining project plans, directing work to other team members, creating status reports, facilitating decisions, identifying and mitigating risks, collecting and interpreting data from various sources, presenting measure and program results to clinical and operations executives, and managing evolving technical requirements.
Product Management: The Manager of Cloud Operations will function as the technical product manager responsible for developing and evangelizing the adoption and utilization of all enterprise cloud assets including, but not limited to Amazon Web Services, Azure, Google, and more. Roadmaps should be developed in conjunction with senior leadership, operational stakeholders, and vendor advisors to ensure these products can meet business and clinical requirements including scaling across multiple dimensions. Specific duties include but are not limited to facilitating strategic planning sessions, conducting product related research, developing product requirements and specifications, producing development approaches and timelines, coordinating the integration of products into the larger enterprise product portfolio, assessing third party products/vendor solutions, communication plans, training plans, writing recommendations to senior leadership, and creating maintenance/upgrade plans.
People Management: The Manager of Cloud Operations will be responsible for the performance management and development process to foster a collaborative and high performing team. This includes, but is not limited to, creating and sustaining a workplace culture, which aligns with the mission, vision, guiding principles, and values for UC San Diego Health. Function as an effective resource to facilitate conflict resolution and enabling collaboration across multiple teams. A key measure of success will be implementing, communicating, and maintaining strong processes to support both the cloud team and the enterprise stakeholders.
Scope of Responsibilities:Involves the development and implementation of the organization's information systems and tools that are applied to clinical and research information. Works closely with clinicians and researchers across all hospital / healthcare departments to optimize effective use of systems. Coordinates analytical support for health management, including profiling, health economics, and business analytics / performance metrics. Defines systems and applications to support various functions. May provide customer service, troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Nine (9) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus five (5) years of related experience/training. Related experience in AWS/Azure Solution architecture, solution engineering, and/or management/oversight of complex cloud/virtual environments and platforms. Managing cloud operations and/or architecture teams
Advanced degree in healthcare information technology, computer science, statistics, or related area.
Demonstrated experience in implementing a sustainable agile framework.
Good negotiation and influencing skills.
Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds; demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at all levels in the organization.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all levels, including executive-level management, on a regular basis.
Broad, working knowledge of other cloud platforms such as Azure or Google.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
