ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

UC San Diego is hiring a temporary Locksmith to support campus operations.

Duration: This role is anticipated to last 5-6 months.

Compensation and Benefits: $44.12 per hour. This role is eligible for Mid-Level Benefits including medical plans, paid holidays, and vacation/sick leave.

Work Schedules: Monday - Friday 6:00A - 2:30P

Location:100% on-site on campus in La Jolla

DESCRIPTION

We're seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Locksmith to join our facilities team, responsible for specifying and installing electronic and mechanical hardware to protect our campus facilities, including state-of-the-art research labs, classrooms, and animal facilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering instructions to assemble and install low-voltage electronic security components, including networked access control systems and standalone digital electronic locks.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair electro-mechanical door operators, and integrate ADA-compliant door operators with card reader systems.
  • Design and maintain key systems, duplicate keys by machine and hand, and change combinations of mechanical digital locks to ensure seamless security operations.
  • Install and repair a wide range of mechanical locks and associated hardware, including low-voltage electrified panic hardware, locking systems, exit devices, door closers, floor checks, and door butts.

  • Is available to work overtime, on-call, weekend shifts, and respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Is committed to providing exceptional customer service and ensuring the security and safety of our campus community.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Thorough journey level knowledge, experience and skills in locksmithing and electronic security. Proven knowledge and ability to utilize correct tools, techniques and methods for handling specific Locksmithing and Electronic Security projects. Experience working in large settings like hospitals, municipalities or universities is preferred.
  • Strong demonstrated ability through experience to install, program, troubleshoot and repair all types of mechanical locks and associated hardware and various types of electronic access control systems. Strong working knowledge of low-voltage electrified panic hardware, locking systems, and door closers; basic knowledge of Closed Circuit TV systems and related hardware.
  • Strong demonstrated ability and experience interpreting equipment manufacturers manuals, service requests, blueprints and system diagrams. Experience working with Building Codes, Department of Industrial Health Standards, ADA Regulations, Fire Codes and University Accessibility guidelines as related to the trade.
  • Demonstrated experience in securing a building, including responsibility of safeguarding and securing keys. Experience with use of commercial door locks, panic hardware, and hold-open devices.
  • Proven experience using and maintaining of hand and power tools related to job functions.
  • Proven knowledge of and ability to use appropriate safety equipment related to the trade.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively provide accurate cost estimates including materials and labor for requested scope of work.
  • Proficiency through experience in use of computers and mobile devices, online timekeeping system, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and the use of various trade-related software such as Omnilock Facilities Manager, Alarm Lock D L Windows, Schlage SMS, HPC Code Source, and key tracking software. Demonstrated experience updating and maintaining a variety of information into databases.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to communicate clearly in person, over the telephone and/or via two-way radio.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • DOJ/FBI and DMV background checks and clearances required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver License and participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Locksmith Registration with the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Ability to work in morgues/gross anatomy/pathological laboratories where human/animal bodies or parts thereof may be exposed to view of the worker and/or contaminated by radioactive bio-hazardous substances.
  • Physical ability to perform all job functions and duties; ability to move through limited access spaces and to safely move supplies and objects up to 50 pounds.

This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $92,123 - $92,123 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $44.12 - $44.12

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
