This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite in Mission Valley and remote.


The LMS Administrator is a part of the Learning & Organization Effectiveness team. Under general supervision from the Learning Technologies Supervisor, this position will provide guidance on the use and support of the learning management system (LMS) as well as providing support with the development or curating of online content for use within the LMS. This position is responsible for the following: (a) day to day management and administration of the learning management system and applies business process and analysis concepts to resolve issues; (b) facilitates, analyzes, documents, and implements business processes and procedural documentation changes, including LMS workflow processes, support procedures, and system configuration; and (c) provides in-depth testing and guidance to client departments who utilize the LMS for UC San Diego Health programs.

This position will work closely with the Learning & Organization Effectiveness team to implement the e-learning strategy; including partnering with internal instructional designers and subject matter experts to produce various learning solutions. The incumbent will collaborate with co-workers and customers in order to design, develop, and manage UC San Diego Health-specific e-learning using a variety of authoring and multimedia tools to create storyboards/scripts and/or production-ready content, and manage customer relationships. The incumbent will partner with internal and external personnel to maximize the learning management system functionality and engage in projects related to the LMS.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administers the UC Learning Center system for entire Health Sciences/Health organization
  • Provides LMS know-how to plan/execute upgrades, enhancements, and fixes
  • Provides technical consulting on LMS projects
  • Create & analyze data reports for learning metrics
  • Collaborate and partner with various subject matter experts to create, design, and deploy eLearning solutions using the LMS and latest instructional Design methodologies


  • Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training.

  • Thorough knowledge of business and process analysis functions. Ability to translate training requirements into properties within a learning management system. Ability to analyze LMS issues and propose and implement solutions. Ability to analyze impact of LMS upgrades and suggest options for mitigating any UC-specific challenges.

  • Experience with administration of Learning Management Systems (LMS) or other similar systems used to manage employee training, including compliance and professional development training.

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot issues with the LMS and determine the root cause and implement a solution.

  • Proven ability to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, collaboration, service excellence and negotiation skills.

  • Solid knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning.

  • Ability to use SCORM Compliant Content Development tools, (Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, Captivate, video and voice editing software, etc.).

  • Strong project management skills including planning work, managing details, keeping multiple tasks and projects on track.

  • Proven knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backwards design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply instructional design methodology in the development of e-learning and classroom-based training.


  • Three to five (3 - 5) years of work experience managing a large learning management system/online learning development.
  • Experience with Articulate 360.
  • Experience administering online learning management system platform, SumTotal Learn.
  • Solid data analytical experience using various applications such as Excel and Tableau.
  • Knowledge of UC processes, procedures, and data sources. Understanding of enterprise business needs and how highly complex business system can support those needs.
