DESCRIPTION

The Student Health and Well-being (SHW) cluster of the UC San Diego, which reports through UC San Diego Health System, plays a leadership role in creating a strong and active wellness culture that enables all students to flourish in body, mind and spirit. This includes the expansion of the student health and well-being center under the oversight of the executive director, into a cohesive, trans-disciplinary source of integrated wellness services. The SHW cluster includes the departments of Student Health Services (SHS), Health Promotion Services (HPS), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and SHW Administration.

SHS provides oversight of primary urgent care, women’s health and specialty care for a student body of over 43,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students as well as supporting services including laboratory, pharmacy, imaging. SHS' multicultural, multidisciplinary and student-centered staff consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, Social workers, medical assistants, pharmacists, x-ray technologists, clinical laboratory scientists, medical lab assistant, administrative and other healthcare professionals. SHS provides integrated clinical services to address the medical needs of the individual students, as well as to foster the well-being of the students as a whole person. In addition, SHS supports the public health needs of the campus community. SHS is accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care and is fully committed to continuous quality and safety improvement through the utilization of data, outcome, and patient experience measurements.

SHS is seeking a skilled licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) who is committed to reducing barriers to student mental health care in a multicultural university environment, and has experience providing brief counseling, crisis intervention, case management, and other clinical services to a diverse population of people. Primary responsibilities for this position involve addressing the mental health needs of students by providing crisis management and risk assessment, brief psychotherapeutic intervention and evaluation of needs, and case management services to foster their matriculation and academic success at UCSD. This position requires proven knowledge, training, expertise in suicide prevention, risk assessment and crisis management, as well as demonstrated sustained engagement with culturally proficient services to under-represented people and young adults, in the service of promoting their personal development, well-being, and academic success.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree from an accredited school of social work.

  • Must possess an unrestricted clinical social worker license issued by the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners.

  • Proven ability to manage difficult and complex mental health cases with thorough understanding of the legal issues surrounding working with higher risk students.

  • Demonstrated experience directing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating case management services for individuals with multiple personal and life problems.

  • Proven ability and experience coordinating care with community mental health resources.

  • Knowledge and experience providing time-limited counseling and psychotherapy, evaluation, diagnosis, and crisis intervention.

  • Proven ability to consolidate clinical information from a variety of sources into assessment and the treatment planning process, including the ability to plan and conduct treatment interventions.

  • Knowledge of various psychological theories, therapeutic interventions, pharmacology, and differential diagnoses using DSM-IV and ICD-10.

  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively, to asses, analyze, prioritize and solve an array of clinical and psychosocial problems.

  • Commitment and expertise in working with diverse populations and/or underrepresented college student populations.

  • Knowledge of student development theories to explain college student behavior, including psychosocial theories, cognitive/structural theories, and ecological and integrative theories.

  • Knowledge and understanding of state and federal health care privacy laws, Title IX, VAWA, ADA, Title II, HIPAA and FERPA, as well as professional ethics or regulations that govern the work.

  • Commitment and ability to acknowledge, advocate, and support the efforts to dismantle structural racism and divisive biases based on race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion, and political beliefs.

  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with a diverse client group. Demonstrated ability to conduct culturally proficient and focused clinical interventions and services.

  • Demonstrated experience in using electronic medical records and understanding of medical record management.

  • Ability to use discretion, maintain utmost confidentiality and comply with all requirements in use of computer systems and access to any and all patient, student, employee and University data, in electronic and hard copy formats, in compliance with University, state and federal guidelines, including, but not limited to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Specific training and/or experience working with problems particularly prevalent in college-age population, and in interdisciplinary setting focusing on student wellness.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Electronic medical records training, especially EPIC, is provided and required upon hire for this position.
  • Must have flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed, for outreach and emergencies.
  • Must be able to work overtime, various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Various work locations and ability to telecommute if/when needed and operationally feasible, as determined by department.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $90,137 - $118,745 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $43.17 - $56.87

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
