This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at La Jolla and remote.

DESCRIPTION

The Translational Ultrasound Lab (PI: Dr. Ahmed El Kaffas) is increasing ultrasound's clinical impact as a bedside, inexpensive, radiation free and non-invasive imaging modality. To do so, we are introducing new state-of-the-art technologies for contrast and molecular ultrasound, as well as developing quantitative and machine learning/AI approaches to mine unique ultrasound signals. Our group is also interested in theragnostic uses of ultrasound as a mechanotransduction tool. We are a highly multi-disciplinary, and our research includes clinical, pre-clinical and computational methodologies. Special emphasis is put on imaging liver, pancreas, renal, and prostate cancer, as well liver diseases such as fibrosis, steatosis and inflammation. Our mission is to integrate ultrasound as a versatile imaging and therapeutic tool into everyday cancer patient care.

Under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator, the lab manager will be responsible for overseeing daily operations within the lab. Operations encompass both basic science research, and clinical-translational applications. The lab manager will contribute to in vitro wet lab work, preclinical studies using animal models and clinical studies involving human participants. This position involves managing daily lab activities, ensuring regulatory compliance, data administration, quality assurance, and facilitating a collaborative research environment for a multidisciplinary team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Theoretical knowledge in biology, biomedical sciences or a related field generally acquired through a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of anatomy is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to independently organize time and have strong attention to detail while handling complex tasks.

  • Ability to perform minor software maintenance on networked computer workstations.

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare figures from acquired data for scholarly publications

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to use tact, diplomacy, discretion, and flexibility with diverse personalities and in a range of situations. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a research team and interact effectively with collaborating labs and members of the scientific community.

  • Knowledge of laboratory safety precautions and illness prevention including appropriate clothing and the use of protective items, with the ability to train and oversee others.

  • Demonstrated experience following research protocols.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional research grant proposal preparation experience.

  • Experience using and image analysis software and playing an administrative role in deploying software packages.

  • Experience with inventory maintenance and ordering supplies.

  • Experience in computer programming; including Python and/or MATLAB programming.

  • Experienced with sonography in patients.

  • Experienced working with pre-clinical rodent models, including basic procedures used in rodent cancer research (i.e. drawing blood, IP/IV injections, anesthetics, etc.)

  • Experience with basic cell/tissue culture, general laboratory assays and histopathology.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • This position may require travel for conference attendance, managing multi-site studies or for establishing new collaborations.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $60,301 - $97,008 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $28.88 - $46.46

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
