The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments within the School of Medicine with approximately 171 Faculty, 60 post-doctoral fellows (both MDs and PhDs) along with over 300 support staff (not including hospital staff). In addition, the Department has 57 clinical residents and fellows distributed across the Divisions. The missions of research, education and patient care are intertwined, and are integral to the goals of the department.
Under supervision, the incumbent will serve as a Laboratory Assistant performing a variety of duties in helping with molecular biology experiments. Duties include assisting with polymerase chain reaction (PCR), cloning, gene reporter assays, cell culture, and participating in routine lab upkeep and maintenance. The incumbent will also be expected to effectively communicate progress with the supervisor, and attend lab and group meetings.
Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and one (1) year of laboratory experience or two (2) years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience working in a research lab setting.
Strong attention to detail, including the ability to maintain complete and accurate records.
Proven ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet all deadlines.
Experience with basic molecular biology techniques.
Ability to effectively interact with others, displaying tact, diplomacy and flexibility.
Demonstrated experience with cell culture.
