The Marine Physical Laboratory division at Scripps Institution of Oceanography is seeking to hire an IT Systems Analyst.
Under the supervision of CORDC IT Infrastructure Leads, the IT Systems Analyst works as part of the larger team to provide hands-on cybersecurity-focused IT support at CORDC. Core duties include setting up and supporting users on Windows, Mac, and Linux endpoint systems to meet a variety of applications including office tasks, engineering, and scientific research. The IT Systems Analyst will be the primary point of contact for shared IT resources throughout the lab including networked peripherals such as printers and AV equipment while assisting with server infrastructure and administration. To achieve these goals, the IT Systems Analyst maintains secure systems configurations, updates the asset inventory systems, documents procedures and resources, and assists with investigating and remediating reported security incidents.

Ability to work with a variety of personalities in an administrative setting, exercising tact, mature judgement, diplomacy and flexibility to promote positive working relationships and job effectiveness. Ability to instruct non-technical users in the use of hardware, software, and peripherals.

Demonstrated understanding of how system management actions affect users and dependent / related functions.
Demonstrated experience writing and editing scripts of moderate complexity used to perform system maintenance and administration. Experience scripting in at least one scripting language such as UNIX shell (e.g. Bash), Python, Powershell, and Perl..
Demonstrated knowledge of computer security best practices and policies.
Demonstrated experience building & managing RAID arrays
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems, including installation, upgrading, and troubleshooting.
Experience using IT security systems and tools. Knowledge of data encryption techniques. This includes installing, configuring, and monitoring anti-malware and firewall packages.
Demonstrated knowledge of standard networking protocols such as TCP, UDP, and ICMP, as well as standard application protocols such as SSH, HTTP, SMB, RDP, and VNC.
Basic skill at configuring system logging settings, as well as reading and interpreting security logs.
Demonstrated knowledge of common computer hardware parts such as processors, memory, storage drives, and motherboards. Experience with replacing failing parts with new ones.
Ability to create specifications based on user needs, and then interface with vendors on purchase and support.
Must pass a background check. Per University of California policy PPSM 21-Appointment, this position has a background check requirement and offer of employment is contingent upon candidate clearing the background check process.
Must be a U.S. Citizen able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
Must be willing and able to travel.
Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
