DESCRIPTION
The Unit-based Hospital Unit Service Coordinator (HUSC) position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operation of Sulpizio 3A and Thornton CVICU2 through adept administrative and logistical support. With a focus on prioritization skills, customer service, excellent communication, and teamwork, this role involves facilitating efficient communication and workflow among nurses, healthcare staff, patients, and visitors, while maintaining meticulous records and managing unit resources effectively.
Key responsibilities including, but not limited to:
Answer phone calls and patient call lights.
Support nursing staff by paging physicians and ancillary staff promptly.
Place work requests for facilities and equipment, ensuring timely resolution.
Serve as a runner for supplies and equipment, including emergency blood when necessary.
Update unit assignment board and patient whiteboard.
Admit, transfer, and discharge patients in EPIC, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Oversee and order supplies and equipment, maintaining adequate inventory levels.
Arrange and coordinate volunteers for the units, ensuring appropriate coverage.
Collaborate and communicate with the charge nurse regarding phone calls, equipment, and supply issues.
Update forms on the unit to ensure compliance and accuracy.
Print patient discharge and transfer information as needed.
Coordinate with radiology regarding patient upcoming imaging needs and gather copies of imaging for transfer to other facilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two (2) years previous experience as a unit secretary/coordinator or similar function in a large, complex healthcare environment.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Strong data entry skills and/or keyboard training.
Superb customer service skills.
Excellent communication and prioritization skills.
Ability to at all times adhere to UCSD Health Medical Center (C.A.R.I.N.G.) Standards of Performance, and demonstrate the characteristics of professionalism in attire, attitude, conversation, behavior and attentiveness to others.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date, Medical Terminology Certificate.
- Two (2) years college/technical school.
- Prior experience in a Trauma or ICU setting.
- Medical Terminology Certificate.
- Proficiency with Epic, UCSD Paging & Scheduling Systems.
- Bilingual: Spanish/English.
- Database management.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Must obtain BART certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $53,766 - $66,858 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $25.75 - $32.02
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
