These positions will all have interchangeable locations between Hillcrest, La Jolla and East Campus Medical Centers based on business needs.

Under the direction of the Patient Access Manager, the Financial Counselor is responsible for financially securing all accounts; ensuring accounts are evaluated within the Medical Center's Financial Policy; serving as financial resource to patient care team, staff, vendors, patients and their families regarding financial issues and/or referral to government programs; obtaining eligibility and benefit information, authorizations, patient demographic information; collecting deductibles and patient liability; presenting and explaining payment options for collections of monies due; coordinating facilitation by pursuing eligibility and benefits for services rendered which are determined to be necessary in the continuum of care; and keeping team informed of the status of the account by openly communicating and participating in removing barriers to discharge and on-line documentation in funding notes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of three (3) years previous Hospital Registration, Patient Access experience in a large, complex healthcare environment.
Proven working knowledge of the patient referral and authorization process.
Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.
Highly proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook).
Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
Possess personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation, discriminating judgment and accountability.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Covered California Certified Enrollment Counselor.
Certified Revenue Cycle Representative.
Bilingual skills fluently in Spanish/English verbally and written.
Thorough knowledge of third party payors and reimbursement requirements, medical terminology, ICD-9, and CPT codes.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $40,700 - $85,295 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $19.49 - $40.85
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
