UC San Diego is hiring a Financial Analyst 2/General Accountant to support the campus operations for the 2023 - 2024 School Year.

Duration: This role is anticipated to last 6 months

Compensation: $29.60 - $35.13/hour. Eligible for paid holidays and vacation/sick leave. Full-medical insurance also available.

Work Schedule: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Location: Hybrid position: On campus (La Jolla) T/Th, Work from Home M/W/F


The Financial Analyst 2/General Accountant serves as principle support to the department's Financial Analyst 3 Supervisor. Conducts error monitoring/audits in multiple financial systems, investigates problems, resolves discrepancies and coordinates corrective assignments; conducts diagnostic analysis of variances between business-unit transactional systems and Oracle (financial "hub" system.) Performs regular Oracle reconciliations for "key" Balance Sheet account such as capital assets, project zero, payables, inventory, and receivables. Provides remedial training for system users to address issues related to source transactions, and develops ad hoc transactional and/or financial analysis and reporting. Coordinates Oracle projects pre-close procedures and revenue/recharge validation(s) and verification(s). Supports the design, development and implementation of new or changed business processes connected to systems functionality and identifies opportunities for business process and/or internal control improvements. Provides general accounting support such as account reconciliations, balance inquiries, and documentation. Acts as consolidator for monthly operations reporting package, Internal Controls package, and quarterly VC comments.


  • Working knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems. Demonstrated background in financial analysis, business process modeling, operational flow diagrams, organizational behavior and work simplification theory.

  • Experience with Maximo - This position bills our recharges from Maximo work order numbers to our customers’ projects

  • Knowledge of GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles and practices) and ability to apply accounting/business policies and procedures, including accounts payable, payroll, purchasing, contracts, and taxes.

  • Knowledge with fiscal year-end closing policies and procedures.

  • Ability to gather reasonably retrievable information to organize, and perform basic financial analysis assignments.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing clearly and concisely.

  • Demonstrated ability using spreadsheet and database software for moderately complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports. Experience with financial systems such as Cognos, Oracle and Concur, or other similar systems.

  • Demonstrated ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high-volume environment.

  • Demonstrated skills and techniques to recognize problem issues and situations and apply resourcefulness in finding appropriate solutions.

This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $61,800 - $108,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $29.60 - $51.72

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
