DESCRIPTION

UCSD Department of Urology was founded in April 2017 bringing together a team of over 30 faculty members and 5 APPs specializing in Adult and Pediatric Urology. Our faculty are experts in their fields and are involved in a wide range of clinical, education and research endeavors. Urology has an expansive clinical outpatient practice encompassing clinical operations in La Jolla, Hillcrest, Rancho Bernardo, Chula Vista, Encinitas, Rady Children’s as well as clinical service agreements in El Centro, La Mesa and Temecula. The department also provides inpatient services in Hillcrest, La Jolla and Rady Children’s. The department of Urology has an extensive research portfolio including NIH funded grants and Clinical Trials. In addition to Research and Clinical success, Urology has a successful education mission proudly training 15 residents and 5 fellows at any given time.

UCSD Department of Dermatology was founded in January 2015 bringing together a team of 70 faculty members specializing in Adult and Pediatric & Adolescent Dermatology, making us one of the largest Dermatology programs in the nation. Our faculty are experts in their fields and are involved in a wide range of clinical, education and research endeavors. Dermatology has an expansive clinical outpatient practice encompassing clinical operations at UPC in La Jolla, MOS in Hillcrest, VA in La Jolla and satellite locations, Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego and multiple satellite locations.

The department also provides inpatient consultation services at Thornton Hospital, UCSD Hospital in Hillcrest, Moore Cancer Center, VA, Rady Children’s Hospital and Jacob Medical Center. UCSD Dermatology has an extensive basic science and clinical research portfolio that allows for substantial funding support from NIH and extramural sources. Clinical Research has been growing with current 12+ active studies in both adult and pediatric dermatology. In addition to Research and Clinical success, UCSD Dermatology is also solid in its educational mission with a thriving residency and fellowship programs comprised of 12 residents and various fellows.

Financial Analyst is a key member of the Business Office within the Departments of Dermatology and Urology. Works with a wide variety of individuals including faculty, staff and other personnel to facilitate financial reporting, analysis, transaction review, budgeting, and programmatic support. Position applies professional financial services concepts. Applies organizational policies and procedures to resolve routine issues and customer inquiries. Works on problems of limited scope and under the direction of the Business Operations Manager. Financial Analyst follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.

Financial Analyst assists with the preparation of department and division financial plans and under general supervision provides analytical support for simple to moderate budget, financial and/or resource analysis projects. Position plays a key role in supporting leadership in the achievement of performance targets. Position will ensure transactions are throughout vetted for policy adherence, provide mypayments, mytravel, etc training as needed, and oversee, in conjunction with the Business Operations Manager the approval process and BUMT alignment. Position will process JVs / EPETS / eNPETs, etc as needed and collaborate with other personnel for process improvement strategies and financial alignment of funds and tasks. For assigned activities, position works to identify customer needs and provide high quality, value-added, services. Personnel are expected to function as team players to assist as assigned with all other activities of the Department.

Uses professional concepts. Applies organizational policies and procedures to resolve various issues. Works on problems of limited to moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of multiple factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Contacts are primarily internal to the department, but may also be external.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Six (6) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus two (2) years of related experience/training.

  • Working knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems. Thorough knowledge of accounting methods and techniques and the ability to apply both in problem solving.

  • Experience in principles and practices of accounting, cost analysis, and audit procedures. Working knowledge of applying financial principles and mathematics in reconciling discrepancies, identifying variances, and costing activities. Skill in forecasting financial activities, including revenues, salaries and benefits, non-labour expenditures, and indirect costs.

  • Ability using spreadsheet and database software for moderately complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.

  • Effective interpersonal skills at all levels within the unit; excellent service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Ability to convey in original written correspondence and reports, complex technical matters in a clear and concise manner, adapted to individual customer needs. Experienced being tactful and diplomatic in presenting transactional concerns and corrective-action recommendations to various levels of internal personnel.

  • Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources. Ability to interpret and implement UCSD and agency policies, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Proven experience with financial issues, ability to recognize potential impact, identify creative and alternative solutions, and make recommendations. Must be able to review, process and approve financial documents (i.e Travel, Entertainment, Purchasing).

  • Analytic ability and solid business judgment in accounting and finance to develop cost-effective recommendations on operational process and internal-control issues.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with UCSD on-line and web-based accounting systems as such as FinancialLink, AccessLink, QueryLink, EmployeeLink or any other comparable financial and operational systems within a large multidisciplinary institution.
  • Familiarity with UCSD Internal Audit requirements.
  • Knowledge of UC accounting and purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Experience in the new UCSD Oracle system.
