DESCRIPTION
Department Overview:
As an Organized Research Unit of UC San Diego, the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) is considered a leader in data-intensive computing and cyberinfrastructure, providing resources, services, and expertise to the national research community, including industry and academia. Cyberinfrastructure refers to an accessible, integrated network of computer-based resources and expertise, focused on accelerating scientific inquiry and discovery. SDSC supports hundreds of multidisciplinary programs spanning a wide variety of domains, from earth sciences and biology to astrophysics, bioinformatics, and health IT. SDSC launched and operates Comet, a petascale supercomputer that joins the Center’s data-intensive Gordon cluster. SDSC is a partner in XSEDE (eXtreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment), the most advanced collection of integrated digital resources and services in the world.
At SDSC, the Cyberinfrastructure and Convergence Research and Education (CICORE) Division combines broad expertise in cyberinfrastructure with deep, domain specific expertise in AI-enabled science to build use-inspired solutions to grand societal challenges at scale with partners in research communities, practical communities, and industry. The Division is committed to providing online, post-doctoral, and experiential education opportunities with a focus on broadening participation for underrepresented groups.
Position Overview:
The Educational Programs Coordinator will oversee a portfolio of educational activities that include undergraduate and graduate student internships in data science, a post-doctoral scholars program, online training, and massive online open course (MOOC) coordination.
The coordinator will work with the UC San Diego online education office and Division Director to maintain and update existing MOOC materials on an ongoing basis and create new online training and courses taught or co-taught by San Diego Supercomputer Center researchers. They will manage a share of the funds generated by existing MOOC programs in support of existing and under development courses, staff and support online course module development activities and hire and manage interns for ongoing learner support and course monitoring.
In developing student internship opportunities, the Program Coordinator will work with the Division's Director of Strategic Partnerships to create experiential education opportunities for students, ensuring data and compute resources for storage and analytical activities. In carrying out the post-doctoral scholar's program, the Program Coordinator will manage onboarding and career path development in collaboration with faculty and departments from across campus. The Program Coordinator will also provide support to coordinate appointments and staffing for the Master of Advanced Studies program in data science and engineering.
The Program Coordinator will use advanced technical skills related to learning management systems, multimedia design, assessment systems, communication tools, streaming media platforms, and multimedia creative applications to meet unique and often "new" requirements related to online course design and development. Analysis of project requirements requires in-depth evaluation and understanding of learning goals, perhaps woven through a series of courses, and how technology tools facilitate creating content and managing data related to behavior and performance. Interacts with senior internal and external personnel and has an exceptional command of communications that represents the organization. May assume responsibility for a program of courses offered at a university or with university affiliates. Provides guidance to other instructional designers, particularly across campus partnerships.
