DESCRIPTION

The Director of the Retirement Resource Center (RRC or "the Center") develops, recommends, and implements administrative organizational structure and procedures that promote the Center and support the UCSD Boards for the Retirement Association (RA) and the Emeriti Association (EA). The Director takes a leadership role in independently managing the Center. The Director facilitates and supports the Boards in their oversight of events and programs which support the RA/EA members as well as an overarching support of resources available to all retirees. This role reports to the Senior Director, People Programs and Rewards within Campus HR.

The RRC Director is responsible for developing strategic goals and objectives for the Center. Develops vision towards objectives that can contribute back to the University through mentorship and stewardship of programs. This includes oversight of daily business operations, programming digital and social events for RA/EA members, aligning with campus and community partnership groups, and providing support to both RA/EA Boards to help meet their membership engagement goals. The RRC Director provides leadership in identifying outreach services aimed to help further develop program offerings, membership affiliation with the University, fundraising, and volunteerism that help foster engagement within our local community.

The RRC Director oversees the success of the UCSD Chancellor Scholars Program (CSP) and the UCSD Emeriti Mentor Program (EMP). The CSP/EMP Scholar's programs include oversight of annual budget and planning of events specific to fostering the mentor/mentee relations as well as foster collaboration to support successful outcomes for our first-generation scholarship recipients along with the volunteer RA/EA mentors. The Director formulates strategies and goals, directs planning activities, and and provides opportunities for our retiree members to engage with our UC community - including lifelong learning, long-term planning, and mentorship.

The RRC Director will work closely with the governing boards of both the UCSD-RA and UCSD-EA to maximize the opportunities for growth and development of the Retirement Resource Center. In cooperation with the Benefits Director, the RRC Director also helps to facilitate retirement education programs for health & welfare as well as financial retirement planning considerations for our UCSD faculty, staff, and emeriti retirees.

The RRC Director also maintains a relationship with Council of the University of California Retirement Association (CUCRA) and the Council of the University of California Emeriti Association (CUCEA). These entities provide a collective voice for Retirees across the UC System.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Thorough knowledge of University rules and regulations, processes, protocols and procedures for budget, accounting and fund management, and / or personnel management.

  • Interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills.

  • Knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning, basic fundraising processes, risk management planning, website design, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines.

  • Solid knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.

  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.

  • Strong skills in short-term planning, analysis, problem-solving, and customer service.

  • Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, and / or human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees.

  • Experience, service and work with low-income, disadvantage/under-represented students. Work with coordinators from programs charged to serve disadvantaged students or which especially encourage participation by under-represented students.

  • Proven abilities in marketing, public relations, customer service, and community outreach activities.

  • Outstanding problem solving skills to examine issues, compile information, and make recommendations in a clear and concise manner; research and investigative skills to clarify information and respond to inquiries

  • Demonstrated experience with planning, coordinating, implementing and follow-up on special events with attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in applying various software applications to accomplish goals and objectives, including proficiency with using the Internet and conducting web-based research

  • Demonstrated skills in collaborating with a diverse group of people to develop short- and long-range planning and program goals.

  • Demonstrated competency with and commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging.

  • Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills to balance multiple priorities; ability to prioritize workload, demonstrate flexibility with new assignments, and assess resources to ensure completion of all tasks in a timely manner.

  • Demonstrated experience with general accounting policies and principles; financial management experience necessary to allocate resources, prepare budgets, and analyze financial data.

  • Strong skills and experience in identifying and developing creative solutions/alternatives to general problems and recommending innovative changes to processes

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be willing to travel to events and/or committees/Council meetings. Some events local and others are beyond the SD region, but within the UC System.

  • Job offer is contingent on successful Background Check.

  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

  • This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $77,000 - $139,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $36.88 - $66.67

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
