DESCRIPTION
The Director of Student Affairs Policy, Standards, and Conduct is responsible for the upholding the UC San Diego Conduct Code and UC San Diego Student Conduct Standards and related policies and regulations.
This position has the authority and responsibility of strategizing, developing and implementing precedent-setting changes to policies, procedures, regulations, and programs that directly impact student life. The Director oversees the day-to-day operations of the Office of Student Conduct and manages risk for the campus and performs work that is extremely complex, confidential, and layered. Additionally, the incumbent provides oversight of the restorative justice program, in support of the VC Student Affairs divisional strategic plan, to provide alternative options for conflict resolution through the student conduct process and for departments, units, and student groups. The incumbent advises the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs (VCSA) on all student conduct-related policy matters, staying abreast of system wide policy issues, national trends, Federal, State, local laws, and regulations regarding conduct and educating the UC San Diego community on emergent policy issues.
In addition, the Director is responsible for development and assessment of strategic plans, learning outcomes, and goals for the Office of Student Conduct and university-wide student conduct process while playing a key role in the development of divisional strategic goals and learning outcomes. Develops annual budget priorities and conducts short- and long-range resource for program planning. This position has delegated authority from the VCSA in management of all related Student Conduct matters for the campus.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Advanced degree in Judicial Management related field or appropriate combination of education/experience preferred.
Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization. Excellent knowledge and demonstrated skill in the administration of university student conduct code, policies, procedures and processes. Strong ability to analyze complex documents, evidence andinformation relating to complaints/allegations of student misconduct and to repair appropriate reports/correspondence.
Knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences. Advanced knowledge of student misconduct cases, including related statistical reporting and use of case management software, while working effectively and collaboratively with others having shared responsibility in student misconduct cases.
Strong leadership skills to motivate employees and influence attitudes and behaviors. Excellent ability to work as a member of a collaborative, multidisciplinary decentralized team. Proven ability to provide leadership that motivates and promotes team building and creates a positive work environment.
Skills in monitoring / assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements. Ability to understand various diversity issues in higher education, including issues that affect the diversity climate,and ability to work with underrepresented students and their organizations.
Skills in project management, social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do. Demonstrated experience and skill to routinely monitor production and quality of work being produced by staff and set performance standards, observing behavior, providing objective feedback, counseling, and implementing corrective action as needed to mediate disputes or otherwise help to resolve conflicts and to provide effective leadership/coaching/mentoring. Demonstrated experience and skill to assess staff capabilities and workloads and redistribute when necessary. Demonstrated experience and skill to teach/train staff in all aspects of job duties/responsibilities.
Strong knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. **Advanced knowledge of Student Conduct policy and procedures and ability to work with a broad variety of difficult cases.
Ability in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, persuasion, leadership, and intercultural competence. Demonstrated knowledge and skill in making sound independent judgments, maintaining calm demeanor, professional demeanor, decorumand presence of mind to promote civil and professional communication with administrative colleagues, support staff, and parents.
Excellent communication skills, oral and written, including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility in dealing with a variety of individuals and groups at all levels of the UCSD community and from diverse socioeconomic and cultural/ethnic backgrounds.
Demonstrated ability to prepare and present workshops and seminars to various audiences (e.g., faculty, staff, students, parents) on the ethics and values underlying student conduct expectations, and the policies, procedures and methods relevant to student misconduct cases.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and an understanding of the importance of protecting the privacy of records and correspondence.
Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.
Demonstrated ability to develop and administer annual budgets and ensure accurate reporting.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $85,400 - $156,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $40.90 - $75.10
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
