DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, the incumbent will assist a team of engineers supporting scientific research in the area of Structural Engineering. The incumbent will provide maintenance and general operation of equipment, including material handling devices and electronic instruments.

Use hand and power tools, measuring devices, heavy equipment and machining tools. Fabricate, assemble and maintain electrical and mechanical equipment in support of structural testing. General creative problem solving to achieve research-focused objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge and experience in operation of manlifts, forklifts and/or overhead cranes

  • Demonstrated experience with machine shop equipment (i.e. lathe, milling machine, drill press, band saw and grinding equipment) involving various materials including wood, steel and aluminum

  • Graduation from high school or a general education diploma and three yearsof technical and craft experience; or an equivalent combination of educationand experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in carpentry, steel construction, and/or concrete construction

  • Demonstrated experience with measuring systems, including tape measure, calipers, micrometers and dial gages

  • Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate effectively with lab personnel, researchers and faculty

  • Demonstrated ability to work in "field like" conditions, i.e., scaffolding, ladders, and non-climate-controlled areas

  • Knowledge of laboratory and shop safety procedures with regard to handling of hazardous/dangerous materials and equipment

  • Working knowledge of PC operating systems, including web browsers and Microsoft Windows applications

  • Demonstrated ability to do quality work, be conscientious and organized with attention to detail

  • Demonstrated ability to interact with researchers to determine requirements to achieve the desired test objectives

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to occasionally work evening and weekends as required to complete research projects.

  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $53,307 - $63,997 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $25.53 - $30.65

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
