This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite on Campus and remote.

This position will be hired at the INFO SYS ANL 1 or INFO SYS ANL 2 level depending on the experience of the selected candidate.

DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, the incumbent will be performing research in behavioral genetics in mice, rats and humans within the Department of Psychiatry. The primary focus area of this position is within the Center for Genetic Studies on Drug Abuse in Outbred Rats (ratgenes.org). The main responsibility is to assist in database processes and routine quality control for data inputs and analysis outputs. This includes executing standardized queries for PosgreSQL database, assisting with data organization and backup.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four (4) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area.

  • Basic knowledge of Linux, Windows, and SQL.

  • Basic knowledge relating to the design and development of software. Linux-based workflow development, including Bash scripting. Experience in developing multistep analysis pipelines/workflows using scripting languages.

  • Demonstrated ability to install software and troubleshoot basic problems with computing devices, peripherals and software. Basic understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.

  • Basic understanding of data management operations and database administration. Experience writing programming code, most commonly using SQL and R/ Python, to create database processes.

  • Basic knowledge of computer security best practices and policies. Ability to put knowledge into practice.

  • Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.

  • Effective interpersonal skills sufficient to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Experience in handling big data sets and experience in programming languages, including R/Python.

  • Ability to program and maintain automated data collection, data quality control and data storage systems.

  • Ability to report and summarize collected data and effectively present to team members.

  • Ability to backup and restore data to prevent data loss.

  • Ability to perform database maintenance operations for multiple projects.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience or academic courses in molecular biology, genetics, or computation biology.
  • Experience in using software revision control systems (e.g. GIT).

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $37,900 - $85,300 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $18.15 - $40.85

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
