DESCRIPTION

The UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS) is an interdisciplinary, discovery-driven graduate school focusing on international affairs and public policy. GPS instructs a diverse student body of domestic and international students in the MPP, MCEPA, MIA, and MAS-IA degree programs, a joint Ph.D. with the Department of Political Science and executive education programs. GPS also administers the International Studies Program, offering a rigorous curriculum for students interested in international affairs with nine B.A. degree options, three combined BA/MIA and BA/MPP programs, and a minor program. GPS is also the parent organization to major research centers: 21st Century China Center, 21st Century India Center, Big Pixel Initiative, Center for Commerce and Diplomacy, Cowhey Center on Global Transformation, Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies, Fudan-UC Center on Contemporary China, Japan Forum for Innovation and Technology, Korea-Pacific Program, Policy Design and Evaluation Lab, SDG Policy Initiative, Wavemaker Lab, and the campus-wide Deep Decarbonization Initiative and the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation.

Under supervision of the GPS Director of Student Affairs, the incumbent is responsible for drafting and inputting to the Instructional Scheduling Assistant (ISA) the quarterly class schedules for both the School of Global Policy and Strategy and the International Studies Program based on instructor availability and scheduling preferences, classroom availability, degree requirements, and likely student enrollment.

The Curriculum Planner assesses the best timing of course availability and scheduling based on program needs, past course offerings, historical enrollment data, and projected student enrollment. The incumbent communicates directly with faculty and instructors regarding course needs, scheduling preferences, departmental policies, and the creation of the GPS Finals Schedule.

In addition, the incumbent works with Student Affairs in assessing room availability based on class size, providing faculty and instructors with first- and third-week class lists. In addition, the incumbent will maintain GPS data on state sponsored and self-funded program enrollment in classes.

The curriculum planner is responsible for oversight of Canvas, the learning management application all instructors use to post their class syllabi, readings, and assignment prompts, where class grades are posted, and to which students submit assignments, and are able to communicate directly with faculty and instructional assistants. Responsibility includes working with campus EdTech on the creation of quarterly class shells, helping faculty with set-up, keeping up to date with new applications, and assisting in faculty training on Canvas. The planner will also be responsible for book orders and communication with the campus library for eCourse reserves.

The incumbent will also be responsible for the upkeep of electronic student files (Record Keeper), to include logging degree specific petitions and inputting of degree appropriate coding to the Student Information System used to format degree audits (uAchieve).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with the process of and information required for the course approval process.

  • Experience with curriculum design.

  • Knowledge of the requirements of FERPA and experience working with files covered by these requirements.

  • Knowledge of the rules regarding the use of campus space when scheduling classes and programming.

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

  • Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.

  • Knowledge of department, organization, and University policies, procedures, and directives.

  • Knowledge of department and school / college general and major course requirements.

  • Interpersonal skills to work with department senior management, faculty, and students.

  • Ability in problem identification, reasoning, analysis to identify trends.

  • Ability to find solutions to conflicting situations.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $53,800 - $91,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $25.77 - $43.58

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
