The Alzheimer's Disease Cooperative Study (ADCS) was formed in 1991 as a cooperative agreement between the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and the University of California, San Diego. The ADCS is a multi-center clinical trials consortium that provides an operational framework for large scale Alzheimer's disease research projects. The ADCS consists of 7 cores, 22 committees, 35 research sites that are members of the consortium/Steering Committee, and an additional 40 or more research sites located across the U.S. and Canada that participate in one or more trials coordinated by the ADCS. Annual funding for the ADCS ranges from $15-25M. The ADCS provides expertise in developing Alzheimer's disease related protocols and is the coordinating center for multiple clinical trials of varying sizes and complexity under subcontracts funded by NIH and clinical trial agreements with industry partners.
The Clinical Trials Financial Analyst is a member of ADCS finance, and uses professional concepts to apply organizational policies and procedures, and contributes to the financial and operational performance of the center/ADCS.
Under general supervision, the incumbent will invoice and reconcile clinical trial contracts and budgets against postings in Oracle Financial Cloud and other systems. The ADCS Clinical Trials Financial Analyst 2 is responsible for the collection and management of 50-100 accounts and both NIA- and Industry/Pharmaceutical-Sponsored Clinical Trial Agreements. Incumbent will develop, expand, and refine the effectiveness of in-house collection procedures and processes to quickly resolve issues of overdue accounts in order to significantly reduce accounts receivable and extract Account Receivable Aging information to develop trend analyses and evaluate effectiveness of Collection Management processes. This position is also responsible for investigations, analyses, and follow-up actions required to ensure the timely receipt of payments.
In addition, the incumbent researches, prepares, and provides detailed and timely reports to ADCS Leadership as well as performs cost transfers to ensure strict adherence to University policies and clinical trial agreements. Responsible for approving Oracle purchase orders, travel, and Concur requests in relation to given accounts.
The ADCS Clinical Trials Financial Analyst II will have exposure to the multiple facets of clinical trials operations at the ADCS, interfacing with various central offices (RSC, OCTA, IRB, OCAA, General Accounting, etc) and acting as an intermediary between these units and other stakeholders, such as Principal Investigators and Project Directors. The incumbent will work within a high-volume, fast paced environment, with changing priorities and requires tact, political acumen, diplomacy, and discretion on a wide variety of complex and sensitive matters. On a daily basis, the incumbent will use professional concepts, judgment, and organizational policies to resolve various issues. The scope of these solutions will range from transaction processing to in-depth analysis for department leadership.

Works on problems of limited to moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of multiple factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Contacts are primarily internal to the department, but may also be external.
Six (6) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus two (2) years of related experience/training.
Working knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems. Demonstrated financial background including knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and financial experience in a University or academic institution.
Ability to gather reasonably retrievable information to organize, and perform basic financial analysis assignments. Ability to manage a high volume of transactions.
Strong ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing clearly and concisely. Must possess the necessary skills to convey information to non-financial faculty and executive-level staff.
Proficient ability using spreadsheet and database software for moderately complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports. Expertise with PCs, database applications, and business computer software programs necessary for the proper function of office including Excel and Word.
Effective interpersonal skills at all levels within the unit; excellent service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment. Taking direction from others, such as the Finance Director as well as other ADCS leadership, is required.
Knowledge of and experience working with federal and state regulations regarding clinical trials.
Demonstrated background in working with research contracts.
Extensive knowledge of accounting principles, business math and bookkeeping for budget planning and analysis and in reconciling discrepancies.
Demonstrated experience analyzing and drafting complex clinical trial budgets and recommending negotiation for mutually satisfying terms and conditions.
Ability to identity issues and problems, thoroughly research complex financial issues and summarize large amounts of data into useful recommendations.
Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
- Prior experience with EDC and CTMS data entry preferred, especially with Trial Master and Clinical Conductor.
- Experience conducting transaction sampling.
- Valid HIPAA and GCP certifications are preferred.
- Knowledge of University policies, procedures, and business systems such as UCPath, Oracle Financial Cloud, Kuali Research, Concur, Financial Link, etc.
- Knowledge of UC policy and procedures regarding acceptance of industrial funds, including rights to data, restrictions on publication, indemnification, subject injury, disposition of intellectual property rights, patient confidentiality.

- Must be willing to work outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends as needed to meet deadlines.
