DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the BMT Finance Manager, the BMT Oncology Service Line Financial Counselor is responsible for financially securing all accounts in assigned areas; ensure accounts are evaluated within the Health System Financial Policy. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of third-party reimbursement requirements and regulations. Serves as a financial resource to the patient care team, staff, patients, and families regarding financial issues and/or referrals to government programs.
Obtains eligibility, benefits information, authorizations, patient demographic information, deductibles, and patient liability. Presents and explains payment options of collections of monies due. Determines eligibility and benefits and coordinates which services are necessary for the continuum of care. Keeps team informed of the status of an account by openly communicating and participating in barriers to discharge and online documentation in funding notes. Performs other related administrative support functions as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Three (3) years of Hospital Registration/Patient Access experience in a large, complex healthcare environment.
Thorough knowledge of administrative procedures and processes, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Highly proficient with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
Requires good verbal and written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, multi-task, and time management skills.
Thorough knowledge of third-party payors and reimbursement requirements, medical terminology, ICD-10, and CPT codes.
Working knowledge of the patient referral and authorization process.
Knowledge of HIPAA.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bilingual: English/Spanish.
- Recent Blood and Marrow Transplant Program experience, with knowledge of global transplant contracts.
- Experience with authorization retrieval for high-dollar oncology procedures.
- Extensive knowledge of State, Government, commercial, and HMO policies.
- Knowledge of EMTALA.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $40,700 - $78,258 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $19.49 - $37.48
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
