This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite on Campus and remote.

DESCRIPTION

The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments within the School of Medicine with approximately 250 Faculty, 127 postdoctoral fellows (both MDs and PhDs) along with over 320 support staff (not including hospital staff). In addition, the Department has 68 clinical residents distributed across the Divisions. The missions of research, education and patient care are intertwined, and are integral to the goals of the department.

The Department manages a university-affiliated children's health system with the physicians and leadership of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), Rady Children's Hospital, and Rady Children's Specialists of San Diego, a Medical Practice Foundation, unifying pediatric patient care, research, education and community service programs.

Under supervision, the Bioinformatics Programmer supports the development of two NIH-funded platforms, PanKBase and Common Fund Knowledge Center, both of which involve the collection and processing of genomic and other experimental data, recording detailed meta-data, establishing reproducible data processing pipelines and quality control standards, developing databases, web interfaces, APIs and other tools, and working collaboratively with other groups involved in these projects

The incumbent uses professional bioinformatics concepts. Applies computational procedures to resolve a variety of analysis and research issues. Works on assignments of moderate scope where analysis of data requires a review of a variety of factors. Assists in additional analyses as needed to achieve research objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Six (6) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus two (2) years of related experience/training.

  • Working knowledge of bioinformatics methods and data structures.

  • Working knowledge of applications programming and web development.

  • Working knowledge of databases.

  • Working project management skills.

  • Working knowledge of modern biology and applicable field of research.

  • Interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.

  • Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Self motivated, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate problem solving skills.

  • Working knowledge of application and data security concepts.

  • Experience with programming in Python and R, bioinformatics pipeline development, experience working with high-throughput experimental data, experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, ideally web development and web visualization development.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $74,300 - $134,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $35.58 - $64.42

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
