DESCRIPTION

Under the leadership of the Managing Executive Director of Development, Community Fundraising (MEDOD-CF), the Associate Director of Development, Donor Relations, Health Sciences Advancement (ADOD, DR-HSA) will play a key role in advancing Health Sciences’ donor relations efforts. The incumbent will partner with Health Sciences Advancement leadership to design, implement and direct systematic, integrated and strategic programs and projects that recognize, honor and strengthen the university's relationships with Health Sciences donors of all levels.

The ADOD, DR-HSA is responsible for developing, managing and executing strategies and programs for the health sciences that ensure ongoing beneficial relationships with all university constituents from the highest to annual giving level donors, prospective donors, alumni, parents, students, volunteers, and grateful patients. The ADOD, DR-HSA develops and implements highly collaborative, customer-based services and strategic programming, and provides proactive consultation to health sciences leadership and development professionals on comprehensive engagement and outreach opportunities, including but not limited to events that are geared to cultivate new prospects and steward loyal supporters at all levels of giving. The incumbent partners closely with the health sciences events team to facilitate donor engagement through events. Aligns strategies, programs and services of health sciences donor relations activities with university-wide fundraising objectives, and collaborates with other key partners to ensure comprehensive coordination is in place to maximize their effectiveness. Works with MEDOD-CF on operating plans for health sciences engagement programs, designed to facilitate achievement of determined goals and objectives and to ensure broad and consistent outreach to the university's constituents. Collaborates and coordinates with necessary parties to define needs for data and complex reports for targeted donor and prospective donor groups, invitation lists, mailing lists, etc. for strategic management and planning, and also to develop, manage and execute unique, personalized activities to creatively engage the university's highest-level donors and prospective donors to the health sciences to directly increase philanthropic support. Incumbent works closely with MEDOD-CF to manage the annual strategies and planning for health sciences donor relations activities, including endowed chair donors, capital project donors, transformational donors, and other special projects as determined by health sciences and university leadership.

In partnership with the MEDOD-HSA, the incumbent will utilize high-level knowledge and analysis of industry best-practices to develop and implement systems, strategies and procedures to ensure that Health Sciences major, principal, and transformative gift donors are thoughtfully and consistently managed and recognized. This will include working with fundraisers to develop and execute personalized stewardship strategies and activities for high-level donors, and coordinating reporting efforts with financial reporting and other appropriate offices. The ADOD, DR-HSA will provide high-level coordination of Health Sciences’ donor relations and stewardship efforts in partnership with development officers, unit-based donor relations and stewardship staff and other Advancement colleagues.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated success at creating and implementing targeted donor relations programming to strengthen and significantly enhance a comprehensive donor pipeline with a goal of $100K+ to included endowed chair donors, faculty/staff donors, and corporate/foundation donors.

  • Proven experience in creating, developing and implementing comprehensive and strategic donor relations and stewardship plans for both individual donors and groups of donors. Demonstrated knowledge of stewardship and donor recognition principles and practices. Demonstrated ability to independently establish objectives, plan, direct and evaluate all aspects of donor relations and stewardship.

  • Proven experience in the full spectrum of development including: prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, donor recognition, gift policies, support groups and administration.

  • Advanced knowledge of practices and procedures associated with building and maintaining effective working relationships with all levels of alumni, internal and external constituencies.

  • Advanced written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including skill to produce information that is appropriately presented and effectively received by target constituencies.

  • Active listening skills, including advanced critical thinking and analytical skills.

  • Skill to recognize potential areas of constituency concern and address, resolve and / or mitigate problems or issues.

  • Advanced project management skills, including skills to plan and implement successful events.

  • Proven record of conceptualizing, creating, writing and delivering strategic and multi-faceted stewardship reports and other high-level donor communications in a complex academic environment.

  • Proven experience in conceptualizing, planning and executing effective and cost-efficient donor stewardship events, symposia etc. in a higher education environment to strategically enhance and advance relationships with wide range of donor constituents.

  • Proven experience in building and managing a dynamic stewardship portfolio of key Health Sciences donors who have made lifetime gifts. Proven experience in successful donor solicitations.

  • Proven ability to effectively lead and direct collaborative, customer-based services in a complex academic setting with multiple stakeholders. Ability to work effectively with institutional leadership to achieve effective donor programming and stewardship of key donors.

  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with key donors and prospective donors. Demonstrated ability to write in a variety of styles and formats to reach a diverse audience, including letters, human interest stories, and personalized pieces.

  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize and analyze information to develop and create concise, well-organized reports, summaries, policy documents, briefing, and strategy documents for senior administrators and

  • Experience with and ability to develop and use computer applications and capabilities to produce correspondence, reports and tools for analysis and review, i.e., Word, Excel, database applications, the internet, etc.

  • Ability to conceptualize, identify and solve problems in a creative and timely manner.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated competency and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $85,400 - $156,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $40.90 - $75.10

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
