Join the Residential, Retail and Supply Chain Services (RRSS) team at UC San Diego, a dynamic and innovative campus department dedicated to delivering exceptional service to the university community. As a member of the HDH team, you will be part of a self-funded unit with over 900 staff employees, 1,000 student employees, and an annual operating budget of $250 million, providing housing and dining services to over 20,000 students, faculty, staff, and their families. DESCRIPTION

Under supervision of the ECEC Director, Program Coordinators and direction of the Lead Teacher, assist in the preparation and implementation of various classroom activities for children aged three months to five years. Assist in creating and teaching age-appropriate projects in the areas of literacy, math, science, art, music, dance and cultural awareness. Assist in creating, planning, and teaching fine motor activities, such as finger-painting, drawing, painting, stringing beads and manipulatives. Organize and assist supervising children's gross motor activities such as running, jumping, balancing, climbing, and dancing. Work with children in small groups or on a one-to-one basis according to their own interests.

Keep ECEC classrooms, bathrooms, and always eating areas clean and safe. This includes but is not limited to picking up toys and small playground equipment, washing dishes, sweeping floors, trash removal, retrieving meals and returning dishes from the kitchen, when necessary. Support the health, safety and hygiene of children by watching for signs of illness and keeping the environment safe by ensuring a clean, risk-free atmosphere in the classroom and outdoor areas. Report discrepancies to Lead Teacher. Assist children with hygiene (washing, diapering, toileting). Follow established health and safety procedures for handling emergencies as identified in the ECEC Handbook. Immediately report incidents involving children to the Lead Teacher. Maintain best practices to prevent children from being unsupervised or from leaving the center.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with children aged three months to five years in a formal childcare environment such as but not limited to providing nanny services, care giving skills, camp counseling with younger children, etc. Educational background such as, but not limited to: Psychology, Language Arts, and Human Development. A combination of work-related experience and educational background is acceptable.

  • Experience assisting with the implementation of age-appropriate developmental classroom activities for the three months to five-year-old child, such as but not limited to: literacy, dance, art, music, nutrition, science and outdoor activities, etc.

  • Experience performing light housekeeping, soiled clothes changes and diapering duties.

  • Understanding of Health and Safety issues as it relates to the classroom and the childcare environment.

  • Knowledge of various emergency response procedures. Ability to act quickly, calmly, and appropriately in hazardous situations.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must have college level coursework relevant to the age (or ages) and needs of children they teach and/or are enrolled in a program leading to a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) or equivalent, are actively participating in the program, and are demonstrating progress toward the CDA or equivalent.

  • FBI/Dept. of Justice Live Scan background check and clearance with Child Abuse Index and association through Community Care Licensing required prior to hire.

  • Must possess and maintain current TB Clearance and Health Screening Report.

  • Must possess and maintain current immunization record to include evidence of current immunization for influenza, pertussis, and measles.

  • Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds as necessary.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $44,349 - $50,634 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $21.24 - $24.25

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
