DESCRIPTION

The Preuss School UCSD is a public charter school located on the East Campus, serving students in grades 6-12. Dedicated to providing a rigorous college prep education for motivated low-income students who will become the first in their families to attend and complete college, Preuss serves as a model school to study and develop promising practices in education.

Under supervision, serve as front office administrative assistant for a public middle and high school, addressing the needs of parents, students, teachers, substitutes, volunteers, mentors, vendors, tutors and other visitors, with diverse backgrounds. Responsible for calendaring events, preparing publications such as monthly events and registration packets, and school website updates using the campus management system. Part of a team that works with attendance accounting and transportation coordination. Willing and able to provide illness/accident attention and first aid to students in the absence of the school nurse.

  • Must be able to work overtime as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with front office reception duties, including answering telephone for the purpose of responding to inquiries, transferring calls, and/or taking messages.

  • Experience working on a customer service team; ability to take ownership of customer needs and improve service delivery.

  • Knowledge of standard cash control and reconciliation procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to use a database to track information.

  • Experience working effectively and sensitively with confidential matters and persons from diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to effectively interact with faculty, students, staff and the general public with the ability to disseminate information accurately, communicating clearly, concisely, and effectively.

  • Effective communication skills in person, on the telephone, and in writing, including tact, diplomacy and flexibility.

  • Ability to learn first aid procedures and provide illness and accident attention.

  • Effective word processing and typing skills with experience in the use of email, online environments, web-based applications and related software applications.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and work with frequent interruptions.

  • Knowledge of, and experience with general office equipment and filing systems.

  • Experience working effectively and sensitively with confidential matters and persons from diverse backgrounds.

  • Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.

  • Demonstrated ability to take verbal or written directions and work independently or with others.

PREFERRED:

  • Demonstrated experience working in a school setting preferred.

  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • FBI/DOJ Live Scan background check required.

  • Tuberculosis (TB) screening required.

  • Duties require direct contact and/or supervision of children (defined as individuals under the age of 18); serves as a mandatory reporter in support of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA)

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $33,900 - $70,052 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $16.24 - $33.55

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
