The Analytical Writing Program (AWP) at the University of California, San Diego, oversees student fulfillment of the Entry Level Writing Requirement. The program conducts placement testing, coordinates the offering of courses meant to improve student writing, and assures student achievement through exit testing. As a campus-wide program in service to first-year students, the Analytical Writing Program coordinates its activities with the Office of Admissions and Registrar, the undergraduate writing programs, and the college offices of advising.

The program is housed within the Institute of Arts and Humanities (IAH). IAH emphasizes the value of interdisciplinary thinking in addressing the needs of a complex world and houses multiple undergraduate majors and minors in regional, ethnic, and thematic studies. IAH programs equip students to analyze and speak about the past, present, and future with creativity and insight.

Under supervision of the Business Officer, will facilitate Academic Personnel recruitment and administration for the Analytical Writing Program and the Institute of Arts and Humanities. This position will coordinate academic personnel recruitments, prepare and submit academic appointment and review files for all instructors, and coordinate human resource activities for academics, staff and students, including onboarding and payroll. This position will also provide administrative assistance in the areas of fiscal, facilities, and other general office administration as assigned.

Some overtime may be required at peak times.

  • Knowledge of human resources policies and programs, including student employment policies, and how they affect other organizational policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of human resources management systems and other related business software programs and systems.

  • Demonstrated basic analytical and financial skills.

  • Knowledge of organization, college and departmental formal and informal policies and procedures and understanding of variances to stated policies.

  • Knowledge of unit academic culture and educational goals of discipline(s) served.

  • Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations to Chairs/unit management.

  • Basic knowledge of and ability to apply/interpret organization and college policies and procedures which govern academic HR.

  • Demonstrated organization, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Exhibit tact, diplomacy, flexibility, and courtesy in a professional manner.

  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignment with minimal direction. Ability to develop and maintain a records management system.

  • Graduation from college with a degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
