DESCRIPTION

The Department of Medicine is responsible for fulfilling the teaching, research, and clinical missions of the University of California, San Diego and employs 486+ full-time salaried faculty members and 100+ academic appointees. Staff personnel include 600+ staff in 9 bargaining units, students, and volunteers. There are 250 clinical faculty practicing at multiple sites.

The Cardiovacular Medicine Webmaster is independently responsible for coordination, design, functionality, ongoing support and maintenance of Cardiovascular website. The Cardiovascular Website serves as a gateway to resources and services and serves as a communication mechanism to current and prospective faculty, students, and staff, and affiliates. It not only raises the Cardiovascular Division’s visibility but provides critical information for a national user community. Incumbent will independently resolve a wide range of issues in accordance with best practices and policies; show initiative in identifying process and system-enhancement opportunities with implementation proposals under the direction of a wide variety of contributors.

Experienced professional who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field; independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; possesses broad job knowledge; analyzes problems / issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced digital communications professional to produce design and layout for a variety of non-routine and moderately complex web site applications; ensure search engine optimization; and develop social media platforms. Demonstrates a full understanding of industry practices and organization policies and procedures. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor’s degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training.

  • Proven knowledge of the fundamentals of design and user experience, including skill to design in an appealing, lively and relevant way. Skill in organizing and analyzing written and visual content for the web; knowledgeable regarding web content best practices, accessibility, and usability.

  • Demonstrated understanding of technical language and requirements of the assigned work.

  • Thorough knowledge of content management systems and / or relevant web applications used for web production and organization-specific computer application programs. Demonstrated proficiency using software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Publisher, and Contribute.

  • Strong skills to create clear, easy-to-navigate, informative, accurate, well-designed, and functional web sites that provide web content consistent with the organization's message and in keeping with management directives and client objectives.

  • Thorough understanding of organization's processes, procedures, and applicable rules and regulations for web communications.

  • Proven technical skills in computer applications for web production, image handling, publishing and design, illustration, presentation preparation, animation, web interaction, and / or other state-of-the-art web communication capabilities.

  • Effective interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to approach issues from customer-oriented perspective, and to work with customers to resolve issues. Proven experience working in a diverse team environment, both as an individual and group contributor

  • Thorough skills to develop and implement original ideas and correctly identify and effectively solve problems.

  • Proven ability to read and analyze technical or complex content and write on those subjects in understandable terms for a general audience.

  • Demonstrated research and interviewing skills to gather data using traditional and electronic methods.

  • Ability to research, write and edit text of various styles and lengths on a broad range of subjects under tight deadlines.

  • Experience shooting and editing photos and videos for the web.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in a scientific/medical research environment.
